Mazda MX5 NB Super Bird [Down on the Street]

Mazda MX5 NB Super Bird

The Mazda MX5 NB is the second generation of the Mazda MX5. Just like the NA it is small, lightweight and nimble and it is just an awesome car! Someone has made this NB just a little bit more awesome…
Down on the street: Mazda MX5 NA Super Bird
At first I thought this was another one of those stickerbombed Mazda MX5s but as I got closer I noticed there was a whole different painting on the fender. I have no idea what it is supposed to be but it looks like someone painted a lot of birds on it.

Down on the Street: insane Nissan Sunny GTI-R

Everything about this Nissan Sunny GTi-R is insane and I’m not only referring to the specifications of the car! I covered this GTI-R a few years ago with a couple of photos but back then I was ignorant of its importance. As I had to pass this car every other day I decided to collect some more footage this time:
Down on the Street: Nissan Sunny GTI-R
On the Dutch licence registration page the information told me it had been registered officially as a Sunny 2.0 GTI-R van. Wait a minute: someone was able to register a Nissan Sunny GTI-R as a van in 1993?

The video

Enjoy my homage to the Nissan Sunny GTI-R below that I created using the footage I collected during some five to six times passing by:

Down on the Street: wrapped Toyota FJ Cruiser

When I spotted a Toyota FJ Cruiser in the centre of Amsterdam I immediately thought of Mr. Regular‘s review of the FJ Cruiser. I think it was his most intellectual review so far and he starts yakking about simulation and simulacra.
Down on the Street: Wrapped Toyota FJ Cruiser
The general idea is that the Toyota FJ Cruiser is the car that was made as an hommage to the original short wheelbase Land Cruiser but kind of failed as it turned out to be a suburban beast. I kind of agree and disagree on his view: the FJ Cruiser *could* be also used properly in offroad conditions but as it has ordinary tires mounted it generally sucks at that.

Long story short, watch the video below: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Honda Prelude Mk4

I spotted this fourth generation Honda Prelude in the parking lot of my previous employer. The Prelude itself is the European 2.3i model with 4 wheel steering and is rapidly becoming a rarity.
Down on the Street: Honda Prelude MK4
Even though it looks stock there have been a couple of modifications on this car: the tail lights have been replaced by Lexus-look items and a tow hook has been added. I really wonder who thought a tow hook would look great on a car? Well, given the engine has 209Nm torque it should not be a big problem to haul a caravan with this car…

I did change the format of the Down on the Street video since last time a bit: Continue reading

Down on the Street: a JDM Eunos Roadster!

During my weekly Saturday shopping I spotted a Eunos Roadster parked in a busy shopping street. Naturally I stopped and checked it out!
Down on the Street: Eunos Roadster
The Eunos Roadster is a rarity on the European continental soil as it is right hand drive and we had more than enough of the “normal” Mazda MX5 supply.

I decided try something different and make a down on the street video of the Eunos Roadster this time: Continue reading
