Family Album Treasures: Bell-bottoms Nissan Laurel C130

Bell-bottoms were a big fashion craze throughout the early 70s and the same applied to coke-bottle styling, like on this Nissan Laurel C130, on cars.
Family Album Treasures: Nissan Laurel C130
The owner Willchan first owned a Nissan Cherry X-1R and then upgraded to this Nissan Laurel 2000GL 6 cylinder KHC130 coupe. The butaketsu (pigsbutt) Laurel looks great with the added fog lights integrated in the grille surrounding.

Given the shape and (less) flare of his bell-bottoms I’d reckon this photo must have been taken late 70s when slowly but surely the bell-bottoms were on its way out. Just like the coke-bottle styling got replaced by the squared off and ruler car designs.

Family Album Treasures: The Toyota Celica GT family

In 1970 Toyota launched the all new Celica family with the high performance 2T-G engine and this car was also better known as the Toyota Celica GT.
Family Album Treasures: The Toyota Celica GT Family
Only in 1972 the GT lineup got extended with the “light weight” GTV (Gran Turismo Veloce) and the 18R-G powered 2 litre GT.

Todays Family Album Treasure is actually one of the first 2T-G powered GT models (so a Celica TA22) and you can recognize it by the location of the fuel filler location: Continue reading

Family Album Treasures: Toyota Carina ED ST-X

One of the nice things about the merger between the Corona and Carina lineups was that Toyota made it possible to create a better follow up on the Toyota Celica Camry: the Toyota Carina ED. So basically Toyota now offered a Corona sized car with the performance image of the Celica!
Family Album Treasures - Toyota Carina ED ST-X ST162
Today’s Family Album Treasure is one of the first generation Toyota Carina ED models: the AT160 in this case. Even better: the car pictured here is a Carina ED 1600 ST-X which means it features the 4A-GELU and makes it the model just below the Toyota Carina ED GT-R model that featured the 3S-GELU engine.
Now that’s something I would add to my Family Album any day. ;)

Edit: As you can read in the comments below it is not the Carina ED AT160 but actually the Carina AT151

Family Album Treasures: Toyota Sprinter Trueno TE47 and Isuzu 117

Family Album Treasures generally come with one or multiple persons standing in front of one single car. This Family Album Treasure comes with two: a Toyota Sprinter Trueno TE47 and a Isuzu 117!
Family Album Treasures: Isuzu 117 and Trueno TE47
In contrary to the Toyota in-house designed Trueno TE47 the Isuzu 117 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Trueno TE47 is one of my all time favorite cars, however with pain in my heart I have to admit the 117 is looking a lot sleeker than the Trueno. Still the Trueno TE47 is higher on my want-list than the 117. ;)
The Trueno in the photo also features the well-known Japanese beginner driver mark, so I guess all three are late teens, early twenties. By now this photo should already be in their family album for well over thirty years!
