Over one year ago I posted a series of drift videos on the Hakone mountain pass, shot somewhere in 1995. In this video the same mountain pass, about 3 years earlier and this time only a zenki Corolla Levin AE86 is doing its drifts:
This guy is a very skilled drifter, he drifts both up and downhill. At the same time he manages to keep the car within the lines of the outer lanes through the whole corner!

Yesterday I already posted the Levin video that was posted on HR Blog earlier this week. I promised a follow up, so here it is: the Toyota Sprinter Trueno variant of the same video! D.O posted this additional video on AEU86.
Rally drivers Per Eklund and Klaus Fritzinger drive the Sprinter on the Nurburgring, Zandvoort and Spa again (only the order is a bit different).
This video is even better than the Levin video: the Trueno video shows even more sideways action than the Levin video. Who said Keiichi Tsuchiya and Initial D were the ones to popularize drifting? I think it rather was Toyota with this video! It is a beautiful sight how the panda red Trueno and white Levin do a tandem drift on Spa Francorchamps!
I also spotted a Carina on Spa Francorchamps at @5:41 where Fritzinger talks about the zenki Sprinter Trueno performance. At first I thought he was holding the zenki Trueno catalogue, but when I double checked I found out that pictures of this trip were used in that catalogue, so that wasn’t possible… What was he holding then?
To complete the whole video, the Sexy Sprinter song at the end makes you feel you are back in the 80s again. The echoes of the squealing tires make me want to watch Shuto Trials again! :P
Only the choice for the title of the video is a bit weird IMO. Nowadays it would definitely have a very different meaning. :D
Evan already posted these videos on HR blog, so I’ll just repost them here! They are videos from Toyota shot on several European circuits:
Probably an exhibition video by Toyota to see how well the new AE86 was appreciated in the old world, so this has got to be between May and August 1983.
As you can see they did not use the Euro Levins (aka Corolla GT) but took their own. Both Levins are early GT Apex models: apart from the decals you can see both have the rotating grille and the white coupe has a black moulding on the trunk.
The white Levin shows some nice action when it goes sideways on the Nurburgring before heading over to Spa and Zandvoort. Funny detail is that both Zandvoort and Spa were Formula One circuits at that moment while the Nurburgring was working hard to make a comback with the Eifelring. On Spa they really go wild on the long corners and on Zandvoort they do some faint drifts on consecutive corners. :)
The Corolla sedan in Europe Scenery is a bit of a letdown after all that action! ;)

I did post some Skyline van videos before and all of them were by Deluxe1969. Now this video shows his own van: his Nissan Skyline VC110 van!
Beautiful, isn’t it?
The car itself is a G-16 powered Skyline deluxe, so double barrel carburettor and 100hp on the tap. I have no idea what the thing on the roof is, but IMO it looks like an ex-ambulance…

Video: Heartbreaking Nissan Skyline C110 crash tests
I found an early 70s short documentary about the development of the Nissan Skyline C110! It starts with the the C110 development, then moves to manufacturing of a C110 and then comparing a C110 to previous generations around 2:00 with a four-split screen.

The only touges we saw in the past were nicely paved mountain passes with screaming twin cams drifting in a downhill battle. Nice to see there were actually rough touges in the 70s!

The end of the first and second video continue on the design and crash testing of the Skyline C110:
The test track is, of course, the Oppama Grandrive. Funny to see they already covered the looks of the testcars/prototypes with black cloth as well back then! And just when you think everything is going well they show the C110 Skyline crash test! What’s even more heartbreaking are all those crashed C110s piled up with foliage growing through them.
I must say this is one of the nicest vintage videos I’ve seen in ages!
Ever wondered what the difference is between the taillights of a EU/AU 240K GT GC110 and a JDM Skyline C110?
JDM on the left, EU/AU on the right.
I must say I like the JDM a lot better than the EU/AU spec. Let alone for having the double brakelights. ;)
