WW Kick-off 2013: it started to snow

I’ll continue where I left off: right at this Honda Civic.

For some unknown reason the whole meeting was overcrowded by Civics and for another unknown reason the roads around the meetup were clogged up with high revving VTECs. Once is funny, a couple of time is nice, but after several hours it just gets plain annoying.
Wangan Warriors: Honda Civic EF
Anyway, let’s talk a bit about this Civic: I think the IKEA background suits this Civic. This Civic does not seem to have a clear theme and is a bit of various popular parts together. Take a bra / nose protector, ground scrapingly low coilover set, wide steelies and you are done with it.

Of course that summary is very harsh and I actually did like the car as a whole and took several more pictures of it… Continue reading

Family Album Treasures: Hoshino’s Gazelle

Back in the early 80s when the Japanese Super Silhouette series were at its alltime high in popularity Kazuyoshi Hoshino drove his iconic Nissan Silvia S110 silhouette racer to many victories.

Kazuyoshi Hoshino was a smart man: apart from founding the Hoshino Racing he also founded the Hoshino Impul company which produced the Impul D-01 wheels as their first product. By mounting these wheels on his silhouette racer he had the best advertising possible and many of these wheels were sold to his (young) followers.

Also this guy fell for them and mounted them on his Nissan Gazelle S110, just like his hero Hoshino. Definitely a keepsake for the family album!

Wrecked: Iketani’s Nissan Silvia S13

Not sure if anyone of these guys is called Iketani, but I thought it would be a nice fit since it looks exactly the same as the Silvia S13 Koichiro Iketani from Initial D was driving:

It is also unsure if they wrecked the roof of the car manually after the accident or if it rolled over a couple of times…

And a picture says more than a thousand words: Continue reading

Car Chases: Seibu Kesatsu in San Andreas

When I watched this collaborated GTA San Andreas movie I somehow wondered if Gred would have been involved. Anyway, this video shows you lots and lots JDM tin carnage without any real cars being blown to smithereens!

Of course most of the cars are Nissans, but an occasional Toyota AE86 can be spotted a few times.

Also if you are wondering what that intermezzo at 3:15 is all about: it is a commercial break for featuring this Nissan Silvia advertisement: Continue reading

Japanse Autosport Festival: Traffic jams and parking lot

As promised: lots of pictures are coming up!

The day started early somewhere in Hilversum where we met up at Jack’s place at 7:30. I was perfectly on time for a change, but stupidly enough I forgot to bring along my tickets and had to go home and print them out another time. Then after 45 minutes of driving we arrived in Zandvoort and encountered this near the gate of the circuit:
There is a long line of cars...
It took us another 45 minutes to actually reach the gates. :o

This also meant one of the cars in our group ran into a little bit of trouble when its radiator hose snapped: Continue reading

Commercial time: the Hoshino twins drive Silvias!

Back in 1982 Kazuyoshi Hoshino was the star of the Grand Championships around Japan: he both competed within the long distance Group C races and also in the more popular Group 5 (aka Super Silhouette) races where he drove his Hoshino Impul Silvia:

Two races on the same day: isn’t that a bit too much for a man?

Now this advertisement from 1982 shows you how he pulled off that trick: Continue reading
