Carina sightings: ninja Carina Coupe TA40

After the TA45 Coupe two weeks ago I’d thought it would be nice to post another Carina (TA40 Coupe My Road) from the second generation:

I’m not sure how that Carina My Road can be compared with that bunch of ninjas? Is it supposed to be as fast and agile as we think of ninjas or should it also include their other trades like espionage, sabotage, illusion and assassination? Personally I would rather not drive a car which is both an illusion and will stab me in the back at the same time…

Or else you can see it in this (even more unlikely) perspective: it is supposed to be a follow up on this video with Sonny Chiba driving a Carina TA17 hardtop coupe escaping from a motorcycle gang:

So is the other Carina Coupe TA40 supposed to escape from a bunch of ninjas then?

Carina Sightings: almost mint Carina TA63 GT-TR

It was already a long time ago that I came across this very very very very good preserved Carina TA63 Coupe shot by the Flickr user pigs.of.darkness:
Very good looking Carina Coupe TA63

It looks like it just rolled out of the factory a few days ago and the owner slapped on a set of SSR Longchamp XR4 at the rear and a set of 2 piece Watanabe RS F817 rims at the front! Then thought a lip would finish off its 80s looks!

At the rear you can spot a very very tiny dent next to the trunklid, so that actually gives away that the car is not brand new anymore.

Just look at how beautiful the paint still is: it reflects the van next to it perfectly!

Carina Sightings: Karl Skewes Carina AA60 Coupe

I found some old videos of Karl Skewes (Garage Dori) drifting a Carina Coupe AA60 in the D1NZ. I presume the car either once started out as an AA60 or a TA60 and got converted to a smallport 4AGE. The car itself has a solid axle (upgraded with hilux diff) so that part was not upgraded to IRS.

As you can see the Carina has great cornering abilities:

And it is powerful enough to manji on the straight:

And in this video it looks like his Carina is an easy car to drift:

Now if only my Carina would do that this easy! :o

I also found some nice pics on the Garage Dori website:

Looks like a very tough car to me with those matte black Work Equips at the front and the Hoshinos at the rear!

From what I understood was that back then Karl’s number one car was an orange AE70 (he used that in D1NZ 2005 round 3) but for some reason he used the AA60 for the fourth round. He still managed to get 8th with the Carina during that fourth round! :)

Carina Sightings: Carina TA62 Coupe in Czech republic

Today 86ers.org posted about the Czech duo Franz & Tonda. Franz & Tonda have a nice garage full of old JDM tin, like a Corolla TE71, a (almost deteriorated) AE86, a 280ZX, a Toyota MR2, a widebody Mitsubishi Starion and a TA62 Carina Coupe! :)

It turns out to be a familiar Carina for me: Franz already visited AEU86 in the past!

From the pictures the Carina still looks very nice, but if I understood Franz correctly the bottom is very very rusted and the interior is not too wel either. I really hope Franz and Tonda have time to restore the TA62 and stop its deterioration!

As you can see from the stance of the rear wheels the TA62 has the same live axle as the TA60 (and the AE86) and does not feature the IRS as found on the TA63 or AA63 (Japanese GT models). Nevertheless it would look pretty wild with some deep dish Hayashi Streets on it! :)

Single carb 3T engine
Single carb 3T engine

From the pictures of the engine I can see it has a single carburetor so it is featuring the 1.8 3T. Basically the same engine as the 2T in my Carina, but then with 0.2 liter more displacement than mine. Also a 3TC has a dual carb setup, so that difference is easy to spot. ;)

If you are curious to the other cars of their collection, you can find them here:
