Carina Sightings: awful Toyota Carina Coupe TA60 in Norway

I found this awful Carina Coupe on Flickr. The owner (Long Gone Silver) put some really awful 16 inch bling rims under the coupe, some vinyl flame decal, double antennas, taxi blocks stripe and the most hideous chin and boot spoiler!

Funny thing is that I didn’t know some of the TA60 Coupes actually were delivered with independent rear suspension (IRS):

And, if I’m correct, there is a Carina station van in the background. ;)

It is sad to see such a waste… But then again, this car is in itself already a parody of itself. ;)

Carina Sightings: Carina A6 Coupe pace car

I still can’t let go the Honda City so I was browsing some blogs and videos about the Honda City and came across this nice video:

You can see some early 80s action on the track in the wet!
During the take off you can see a yellow pace car at 22 seconds and 34 which looks very much like a Carina Coupe. Its front lights are square, rear lights are long and wide and its boot has a tiny flat spot. So I think this pace car must be a Carina A6 Coupe.

To keep up with these small Honda City turbos it most probably must have been the TA63 with the 3T-GTE engine. The 4AGE would not be quick enough to follow them: a City turbo racing spec did the 1/4 mile in 13.5 seconds!

As a bonus, another start of a Honda City race and this time it is really spectacular:

Carina Sightings: Carina LA60 Coupe 2L diesel

Remember the video of the diesel powered Carina A6 coupe I posted several months ago?

It just got posted again 16 hours ago on Youtube:

Apparently now it has been posted by the user called toyotawiki who is reposting a lot of old videos with spam in the description (pointing to some wiki page on toyota-wiki.com). He even reposts videos from Riceboy.tv! Oh well, I expected this kind of behavior to happen on Youtube sooner or later anyway…

Tilt-shift style photos

Everybody must have made model kits and made pictures of those model kits as well. So, you know that extreme close pictures make the sharp-depth of your pictures worse and about half of your model kit looks blurred. Actually the same can happen when you take extreme closeups of your children (like Olivér for instance ;) ) and half of their face is blurred.

Well, thanks to IZ Reloaded I found this great website which can do that effect for every photo you have!! :)

As you can see Revolver Drift’s Carina AA63 Coupe almost looks like a real scale model now!

And I did the same for this great photograph at the AEU86 meeting in Limburg. It really looks like it was set on some scalemodel environment in this picture!

Carina Sightings: Revolver Drift’s AA63 Carina Coupe

About two months ago Revolver Drift posted some really nice pictures of his AA63 Carina Coupe near Bukit Tinggi. I asked his permission to post them on my blog as well but didn’t have the time to post it here: there was always another Carina Sighting and I kept moving it forward. So, finally the pictures are here:

Revolver Drift is from Malaysia and his AA63 Carina Coupe features a 4AGE 20v blacktop. The deep dish rims on his coupe fit very nice to the coupe body type. I don’t think it would look that well on a sedan. Also the mesh grille looks quite aggressive with the big headlights. If I only could get a mesh grille for mine…

Thanks to Revolver Drift for allowing me to post his pictures here! If you want to read more, his blog is located here:

Carina Sightings: Carina Coupe on Mooneyes Mania Cruise

I came across this nice Carina Coupe last week on Japanese Nostalgic Car blog:

No idea what the specs of the car are, but what I deduct from the looks of the car it probably is an AA63 4AGE powered coupe. I don’t think you’d need a revmeter for tuning the 3T-TGE unless you want to look interesting. ;)

I’m not too sure about the rims: they look like Konig Rewinds however those wheels are just as rare in Japan as the Wantanabes are here in Europe. Maybe someone after an Irish-twincam-look?
