Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Scrapyard drawings on Flickr

I came across these great drawings by reallyloud on Flickr:
Scrapped green Datsun Sunny 120Y

Most of his drawings are done during the 90s and made available through his flickr sets. This Celica is done really fantastic:

Also most of his other drawings consist of piles of cars and it is some how a bit of a game to recognize them all!

And this drawing of a Datsun 100a really reminds me of the red Cherry my stepdad used to own in the early 80s:

It mostly contains Japanese tin, but you can see some British metal (rust?) in there as well.

Japanese grand prix 1963

One of the people I’m subscribed to on Youtube posted old footage of the first Japanese Grand Prix in 1963 in two videos. Unfortunately he/she does not permit embedding, so I can only post links here.

The first video shows the introduction of the Grand Prix. Then it features a GT race in which a Nissan Fairlady SPL213s wins of a few other cars like Triumph TR3 and TR4, but I also spotted a Austin Healey and a Porsche. This is followed by a touring car race which is very spectacular! A lot of entertaining sideways action with old Japanese tin like the Prince Skyline ALSI-2 and Skyline S50, Toyota Crown S40s and Nissan Cedrics. In my opinion this is the most enjoyable part of the two videos!

It gets followed by the second GT race which is a bit less spectacular than the first but it still contains some really good action.

Then the introduction of the Grand Prix itself which gets started in the second video. Personally I didn’t really like the Grand Prix itself that much after seeing all that action beforehand, but I can imagine the Japanse viewers back then thought the exact opposite!

Hilarious: cooking with dog

I really couldn’t stop laughing and watching Cooking with dog videos on Youtube!

Can you make anything of that Engrish?

I think it is very comparable with the early Tell Sell commercials in Holland: they were very badly synchonized and the usage of the Dutch language was simply awful. But they were very popular with the viewers just because they were so terribly wrong! To give you an impression how it sounded watch these (badly synchonized) parodies:
Sumsing Turbo 3000 Xi Multitask
Carpet Invisible

The bad Engrish of Francis the dog is so bad it is almost impossible not to watch the videos till the end! I personally can’t make much of the receipes but fortunately at the end they give a list of ingredients, so you can still make that yummy Nabeyaki Udon or that delicious Onigiri!

Especially this episode is really bizarre: Bukkake Udon!

I love the remark made by Francis the dog:
This is a great recipe in hot summer! It may be difficult to find some of the ingredients but you can try it yourself!
Try it yourself??? Hilarious! :D :D

Exhaust like a bird

When I was looking for some bosozoku style videos I came across an exhaust builder who creates exhausts for vans and places videos of the exhausts he built on Youtube. This video is one of those exhausts:

At first I thought it was only this video in which it sounded as a bird, but I tormented myself and watched (and heard) every single one of them and I can tell you all of them sound the same! :D

I really think it is a piece of art and a big achievement to create such exhausts, but I’m pretty sure I would never want an exhaust on my car which sounds like a bird!

Shakotan Boogie diecast cars

When I spotted this amazing diecast collection of all Shakotan Boogie cars my first thought was that I had to buy it… Not for myself but for my son Ollie of course!

My second thought was that he was waaaay too young to play with diecasts so I guess I either have to wait for him to grow up or just get them now and play with them myself. ;)

Hopefully he will pick up something from them when he is older. :D

You can find them here:

Edit: somehow this post got stuck and was not publicized. Fixed that now, but now another post is already there… :(
