Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Minivan stoppie

Some months ago I read in an article by Mike Garrett on Speedhunters about minivans doing stoppies to entertain the crowd between the D1SL runs. I did find an excellent movie of someone trying to do the same:

Great! Now let’s learn from that: dismount the shocks on your minivan and drive faster than the allowed speed in your suburban area, pump the brakes to strengthen the effect during the recoil of the springs and voila: a stoppie! :D

Initial D: I love cookies

Funny to see how far you can go with merchandising and squeeze every drop of money out of a cashcow like Initial D:
Initial D milk flavored cookies

Kodansha did a really good job here: some sesame cookies rebranded as Initial D merchandise? That’s pretty desperate!

And they even have chocolate flavored cookies:

I mean: what has a drifting Corolla Levin AE86 to do with cookies?

If it would have contained something like deep fried tofu I would have understood the product…
Initial D cookies backside

At least the backside is a bit matching: it has Itsuki handing a cookie to Takumi… Or could it have been something else under that Kodansha sticker???

Hilarious: I love tofu

I already saw this news on Failblog last week and apparently a woman who loves tofu ordered a personalized license plate with ILVTOFU and the DMV objected her request for obvious reasons:

So tofu is obscene all of a sudden? Would it be obscene to cook a deep fried tofu Oden soup together with your dog?

(yes I really love cooking with dog!)
And it gives a whole new dimension to Takumi Fujiwara doing nightly tofu deliveries. Would be be a pimp then? And his father a brothel owner because he runs a tofu shop?

Would that mean that Iketani asking for deep fried tofu is asking to be fucked really deep then?

Carina sightings: the famous Carina firevan part 3

By chance I stumbled upon a picture of the famous Carina firevan and by chance I looked if the source of the picture also had more pictures of the car.

Lucky enough the source did: it also featured a short video of the firevan starting its Beams 3SGE engine, so you can now listen to that orchestra of 4 trumpets!

The owner is playing some nice music! :D

This picture is shot at the same meeting as the first picture of my first posting about the firevan. The pattern of the water is the same and probably the rain stopped after a while and things dried up after that. ;)

I have no idea why this picture was taken… Maybe these three pictures and video belong to a bigger set of pictures taken at a car meeting?

You can find the other two postings about the firevan here:

Tokyo Matter (Cars)

I saw this movie posted on Twitter by Chris Rhoads today. On one side you can see it as a spoof on Tokyo Drift, on the other side you can see it as “hopping on the bandwagon” for Cars:

It is still quite entertaining, especially guessing on which models the cars are based. My best guess is that the blue Japanese saloon is supposed to be a Crown S120 or S130 and the bad guy a Silvia S15. I also did spot a few bosozoku/dekotora like styled vans. Funny to see all the Police cars are modern Crowns! ;)
