Family Album Treasures: Hoshino’s Gazelle

Back in the early 80s when the Japanese Super Silhouette series were at its alltime high in popularity Kazuyoshi Hoshino drove his iconic Nissan Silvia S110 silhouette racer to many victories.

Kazuyoshi Hoshino was a smart man: apart from founding the Hoshino Racing he also founded the Hoshino Impul company which produced the Impul D-01 wheels as their first product. By mounting these wheels on his silhouette racer he had the best advertising possible and many of these wheels were sold to his (young) followers.

Also this guy fell for them and mounted them on his Nissan Gazelle S110, just like his hero Hoshino. Definitely a keepsake for the family album!

Wrecked: Iketani’s Nissan Silvia S13

Not sure if anyone of these guys is called Iketani, but I thought it would be a nice fit since it looks exactly the same as the Silvia S13 Koichiro Iketani from Initial D was driving:

It is also unsure if they wrecked the roof of the car manually after the accident or if it rolled over a couple of times…

I’m still owner/admin of AEU86 where all European hachi owners end up sometime, so I was quite surprised to find this rare beast on my forum:

It allows the Work Meisters to fit nicely under the wider arches: Continue reading

Count the 86-es!

Nori Yaro just posted this awesome video up on Youtube where about 150 AE86-es and Toyota 86-es are mixed together on a two lap parade on Fuji Speedway (FISCO) held on the 6th of August this year.

It is a good thing Alexi put a couple of fast-forwards in the video!

And at the end of the video there is a small Toyota 86 bonus: Continue reading

DOTS: Super Salooned Crown MS85

Spotting old J-tin on the streets is a big hobby of mine and most of the time I can see in a split second that there is some old Japanese car lurking around in a parkinglot. Imagine the surprise when I walked out of the office and found this good looking dark grey Toyota Crown Super Saloon parked across the street:

At the same time I was talking to someone on the phone and no other camera on me. So I tried to break off the conversation as quickly as possible and take a few quick snapshots with the phonecam.

Here is another picture where I got up close: Continue reading
