Car chases: Seibu Keisatsu carnage mix!

In following of : even more gruesome carnage from the third season of Seibu Keisatsu! (Western Police)
Disclaimer: the two videos are not suitable for fainthearted J-tin enthusiasts!

In the first minute it starts off with a huge explosion and a Nissan Bluebird SSS coupe. Could it be involved in the explosion?

In part 2 even more oldskool Nissans will be killed and if you watch all the way up to 8:01 also a non-Nissan: a Mazda Capella Coupé. Or could it be a RX-2?! Continue reading

What does this kyusha lineup have in common?

A yonmeri Skyline C110, a facelifted first generation Celica, a Mistubishi Galant GTO, another facelifted first generation Celica and finally a first generation Mazda Savanna RX-7. What does this kyusha lineup have in common? Well, appart from the owners being in the same car club obviously…

Simple: they all have fender mirrors! Just look how much more beautiful these cars get when you realize they all feature them!

DOTS: bright white Daihatsu Copen

Even though the Daihatsu Copen is currently still in the showrooms as a brand new car (available till 31st January 2013) it is actually a very rare sight in the Netherlands. Daihatsu’s mix and match of the VW Beetle and the Nissan Figaro suffers from an image problem that perhaps has something to do with some TV presenter? Or could it be something else?
Daihatsu Copen
Only two have been sold in the Netherlands in 2010, but this example is from a far more popular year: 2006 when an astonishing 112 were sold!

I must say that the mini Beetle lookalike looks better from the rear than the front. Continue reading

Friday video: junkyard stroll in Japan

We all see half of Japan’s car inventory being sold as secondhand to the rest of the world through various auction platforms. So that would lead us to the conclusion that Japan’s junkyards must be quite empty and deserted…

WRONG! Just have a look at this video where someone takes a stroll at a (unknown) Japanese junkyard:

I love the detail that the first Crown, the fourth Crown (Majesta) and the first and third Cedric Y32 still have the knitted/embroided traditional headrest covers in place! Also that the second Crown Super Saloon has a full width front bench in place. And what also strikes me is that most of them are largely intact with the keys still in the ignition!
And last but not least: seeing the pristine Cedric 430, Mitsubishi GTO, Nissan Leopard F31 (not about the other Leopard), Nissan Laurel C35, Nissan Skyline R33 GTS4 in such a dreadful state almost brought tears in my eyes…

Old relics: Michel Vaillant’s Toyota Adventure

Or should it rather be called Jean Graton’s Toyota Adventure??

I picked up this comic book at the local second hand comic store for way too much money, but I don’t really car anyway: it is worth every penny!
Michel Vaillant's Toyota Adventure
For the people not familiar with Jean Graton’s Michel Vaillant series: it is all about Michel Vaillant, a French aristocrat who’s family owns a transporting company. Michel’s dad got into racing in the late 30s and Michel takes over his role as first driver. Most of the stories are based around existing cars, tracks and races, with the exception that the family always design and build their own race cars (the Vaillantes). Apparently Jean Graton persuaded by the Dutch Toyota importer to draw this one off episode around a Dutch driver called Adriaan Janssens who drives the 1979 Chevron Formula 3 car and the episode ends with a victory for Toyota at Zandvoort.

On these pages you can see the new March 793 (are those SSR Mk. III rims at the rear??), the older Chevron B47 in the background and also two Toyota KE70 liftbacks: Continue reading
