Carina Sightings: Carina AA63 coupe at New Zealand Nationals 2010

Last friday Michael from Retro Classics posted some pictures of the New Zealand Nationals 2010, including a Carina AA63 coupe going head to head with a Corolla AE70 hardtop:

The coupe features a set of SSR Longchamps at front and some less wide rims at the rear (probably the extra set of tires). It looks very good with the Longchamps, so a mental note to myself: buy a set whenever you can get them! ;)

Dunno what’s up with the hood, but it looks loose on the picture above and fastened on the picture below:

Somehow the Carina single headlights look much better on a coupe than on a sedan!

You can find more pictures of the Carina, Corolla and many other great classics (like a 810910 Bluebird hardtop!) on Retro Classics blog or at their Flickr page.

Random: Honda Think Simple campaign

Earlier this week I saw a bunch of vintage Honda ads posted on EK Hatch’s blog and one of them made me think:
Honda Think Simple campaign
Honda Think Simple campaign

Think simple! It sound incredible so simple, yet so right about the spirit of Honda.

At the same time I thought of the Apple Think Different campaign:

Apple Think Different campaign

Apart from the fact that it uses the type face (clear sign of plagiarism by Apple!) it is also the direct opposite of the Honda spirit…

It almost smells like a parody made on Apple after they came up with the slogan, but I found the following pages to back up the Honda campaign:

WTF: US Nissan Pulsar, 200SX and 300ZX commercial

This 1987 US Nissan commercial was posted by Reich and it clearly illustrates why cars and Flashdance don’t match:

WTF were the Nissan executives thinking in the 80s? Apart from the fact that flashdance and cars don’t match it is also weird to have such a commercial in the late 80s when flashdance was clearly out of fashion. Now if they would have come up with the Lambada it might actually have caught the attention of the teenagers. ;)

My Carina: Marchal yellow foglights

Some people may have read it on Twitter: I bought myself a box full of yellow foglights.

My Carina: Marchal yellow foglights

When driving there (and trying to find my way through Zoetermeer) I was navigating on the map. At a certain point I noticed a white Prius in my rear view mirror, when looking at the map and back to the rear view mirror it changed into a very well known front of a car: a R33 GTR! Damn, that was a shock! GTR passed me and gave the driver a thumbs up. ;)

If you look at the box it will contain four times a yellow Marchal foglight and two times a yellow Cibie foglight. Two of the Marchals are broken (lights/wiring/casing), but the other four are perfectly fine! :)

Well, this is the one I was actually after:

And they are surely worth the drive! :)

So, for the people with difficulty of remembering my Carina: this is what the Carina looked like.

And now it looks like this:

Better?

Without the black/white Marchal covers these foglights look a bit less sporty…

DOTS: Miata hunting! (part 6)

I’m already at part six of the Miata Hunting features! This time it will be an all black edition, so get ready for three black Miatas/MX5s!

This one was shot next to a horse riding school, so maybe a rich lady riding horses? Why not ride her 142 black horses then?

This black Miata was parked on my way to work. The neighborhood isn’t that good, so seeing this car kind of surprised me… The car is an American import and was imported over 10 years ago. It still looks great, so that was another surprise. ;)

This originally Dutch MX5 was parked about 200 meters away from the previous Miata (same neighborhood) on the same morning. Another surprise! I definitely had a busy morning still managed to get to work in time! ;)
