Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Watched Initial D Extra Stage 2 part 1

I watched the first 7 minutes of Initial D Extra Stage 2 Japanese raw I found somewhere on the net.

First impression: nice cartoony graphics during the intro. :)
Second impression: too bad they didn’t continue with that during the rest of the episode. :(

So far it looks like Mako is missing Iketani and the Akina Speedstars decide to take a drive up Mount Akina. Nothing much happening so far:
Initial D Extra Stage 2 screenshot of Takumi's Corolla Levin AE86, Itsuki's Corolla Levin AE85, Iketani's Silvia S13 and Kenji's 180SX RPS13
What I like is usage of the split screen graphics, just like in the episodes in Stage 4. The screenshot above of the four different Akina Speedstars cars (Takumi’s Corolla Levin AE86, Itsuki’s Corolla Levin AE85, Iketani’s Silvia S13 and Kenji’s 180SX RPS13) show nice usage of this. Hopefully this will also feature more during the battles. :)

Overall I think the quality of the graphics is as good as we saw in Stage 4. I actually did expect it to be another improvement as we saw during Stage 4. Music was again by Move and the soundtrack sounded catchy and not too Eurobeat.

Can’t wait to watch the rest of the movie! :)

Carina grille and headlights update

Yesterday I finally picked up the Aazuma package from the postoffice. Unfortunately I haven’t had the time to look at it yet… One of the great things of having children: absolutely no time left at all. I already use up a lot of time for being admin of AEU86 and having Megadik as a blog as well.. :(

I’ll open the package later today and try to make some pics later for here as well…

Toyota Carina DX TA60 for sale in Holland

I saw this immaculate blue Toyota Carina DX TA60 for sale earlier this week on Marktplaats. I decided to put it up here because it is in mint condition!!

Just have a look how clean this Carina is:

Rear view of the immaculate blue Toyota Carina DX TA60 for sale on Marktplaats
This Carina only drove 37000 kilometers, so it is not surprisingly this car is in such good condition! Only the rims are the ugly factory rims… But a set of Celica Supra rims would solve than immediately. ;)

Same goes for the interior of the car:

Blue interior rear Toyota Carina DX TA60 for sale on Marktplaats
Amazing! It is cleaner than my Carina!! It only lacks seatbelts in the rear of the car, otherwise I would that given it a thought upon swapping the car for mine! :)

Only the price is a bit steep: 4000 euros!

Anyone wants to buy mine for 4500 euros then?? It’s got Celica Supra rims and rear seatbelts, so it is definitely worth more than this one! :P

What if: Initial D was drawn by Michiharu Kusunoki

Just imagine: what if Michiharu Kusunoki drew Initial D instead of Shakotan Boogie or Wangan Midnight?

Would Takumi and Bunta look like this?
Takumi and Bunta Bosozoku style with pompadour
I love the B?s?zoku looks of these two muggers and they look like they could be father and son. ;)

Or would we massively listen to Rockabilly instead of Eurobeat? I hope not!

And would Takumi have drifted an AE86 Trueno looking like this Shakotan Boogie Soarer?

Hopefully we will never know. ;)

Celica Supra rims mounted on the car!

Yesterday evening I mounted the Celica Supra rims on the car!

Carina GT-R rims on the front rightside of the car
Carina GT-R rims on the rear leftside of the car
As you can see, the offset on the front is good, but on the rear the wheel hides in the fender. This is probably due to the axle being not wide enough for the car. Remember that the solid axle Carinas were featuring the same axle as the AE86 (Corolla) which is less wide than the Carina. I think I need some spacers now. ;)

As you can see I need some lowering springs as well. The front has positive camber (!) and the rear is also a bit too high…

Hilarious: Drift series special: Beauty Battle part 4 (final)

Well, I’ve finally finished this series… :)

Well, just when it started to get “okay” it became a bit more rediculous again: they add a 4AGZE to the hachi!
4AGZE setup in the Corolla Levin AE86

Well, you might think that adding a 4AGZE isn’t a big problem and should not be rediculous, well you are right! Adding a 4AGZE is one of the best options for the AE86! And it should be considered an “easy” swap. ;)

But the weird thing is that the engine sound isn’t changing afterwards! At least the Supercharger should make a whining sound and the engine should not rev that high anymore!

And no, they did not turbo the 4AGZE to 4AGZTE, see in the picture below. Apart from that they still have the 4AGE engine cover on it:
4AGZE setup in the Corolla Levin AE86 but still a 4A-GE cover on it?

So, my conclusion:
– Wrong translations
– Wrong production date of the car
– Just got a drivers license and already master of heel-to-toe
– Handbrake+revvnig at the same time
– Stabilizer for the wrong purpose
– 4AGZE without a change in engine note

Too many factors giving me this movie a bad aftertaste… I wouldn’t watch any other of the Drift! movies now…
