Friday Video: Nissan ATTESA E-TS explained

As already posted yesterday by JNC the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 is as of today an official Japanese classic. Released on 21st of August 1989 means it is now 25 years old and legal to import to the US (about the only place on earth where it wasn’t) while in some other countries it no longer has to oblige to certain rules anymore (CO2 ratings and such).

The BNR32 Skyline was stuffed full with various electronic gadgets like the ATTESA E-TS system, SUPER HICAS 4 wheel steering and the twin-turbo PLASMA RB26DETT. Back in the 80s the Japanese car manufacturers loved acronyms!

Now if you wonder what the ATTESA E-TS system is: that basically gave the Skyline GT-R four wheel drive by splitting torque between front and rear wheels once it loses traction.

Coincidentally two days ago IKnowSkyline posted a clip taken from the Best MOTORing July 1989 edition featuring the all new BNR32 Skyline GT-R and an explanation of the the ATTESA E-TS system: Continue reading

Video: Trueno and Levin N2 cup in 1985

I’ve been watching Youtube user Rocketpencil for some time now. He is already quite known for uploading old racing footage from the 80s and 90s!

He just uploaded one of the best videos so far: a 15 lap Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno N2 cup race on Fuji International Speedway in 1985!

This second round of the Corolla/Sprinter cup does not show Keiichi Tsuchya and I have no idea if he actually drove this cup. I do know he drove the AE86 in the All Japan Touring Car championship, so there is a big possibility that he actually drove this race as well. At least he doesn’t show up in the top 5…

Video: Orido with his S13 180SX

This video of a (very) young Manabu Orido just got posted on Youtube. In the video you can see him do a really bad run (offroading would be better term for it) but his second run is almost flawless.

Okay, compare that to todays standards and this really feels like watching D1GP in slowmotion! But think about it: I did post a video with the first victory of Manabu Orido before and there you can see he is actually already twice as fast as the competition! 😀 😀
