Japanse Autosport Festival: the odd stuff

I’m still not done yet with the Japanse Autosport Festival: there is still some odd stuff lying around. ;)

First of all Ibrahim and I spotted this terrific Toyota MR2 AW11 parked opposite of my Carina in the parkinglot:

Only to find out a couple of hours later (when it passed by the place the S13 had overheated again) that this very same car used to belong to 7Tune blogger Allard van der Grafhorst who immediately recognized it!

I have to verified it with the originals and it is the same white MR2 as I spotted two years ago. Obviously there are some differences compared to when Allard owned it: Continue reading

Random: manufacturing the MR2 AW11

I found this scanned photo of robots assembling MR2 AW11s on someone’s SW20 blog:
Manufacturing the Toyota MR2 AW11
On the foreground one partly assembled MR2 upsidedown and behind it a better recognizable MR2 that already received 60% of its shape.

I’ve tried finding more pictures of the MR2 assembly line, but apparently this is the only one.

Japanese rustoseums (part nine)

It has been some time since I posted the last rustoseum, so here are some more! What about this poor GA61 Celica XX? It already looks way beyond reasonable repairs:

It was supposed to be the flagship of the Celcia XX range… What happened? Did the owner think it got out of fashion? At least the 15 inch 6J Celica XX rims look salvageable…

How about this Silvia S13 in the foliage then?

Sure enough its headlights were stripped, but apart from that it still looks quite complete… Maybe still salvageable?

And the last one, a (former) white MR2:

It still looks okay and complete: not too much rust. Now is that picture playing tricks with me or does the car next to it have some bosozoku exhaust pipes??
