Hilarious: how to make a 25 year old car win an eco race!

Hot Version proves yet again that the AE86 can still keep up with the latest and greatest cars! While they proved the AE86 could still easily win from several great cars (like the Skyline R34, Honda S2000, etc) and tuners (re-amemiya, etc) they now proved it can even keep up with the latest Eco trends: the Tec-Arts Eco AE86 beats a field of Honda CR-Zs (and a Mini)!

Wait a minute… An eco AE86?? Yes, of course it all depends how you define Eco! Tec-Arts changed a lot of things on the AE86:
– Make the engine to run much smoother instead of letting it scream till the 8200rpm
Smooth running 4AGE
Smooth running 4AGE

– installed an eco button to close of the TVIS
AE86 with Eco button
AE86 with Eco button

– changed the alternator and starter to a more modern version to lower its drag
– changed power steering to an electric unit instead of an engine powered!
– and last but not least: they put foil on the windows to keep you from using the aircon too much.

Now if that is seriously considered as eco my Carina is twice as much eco as that!! It doesn’t have power steering, aircon nor a TVIS! ;)

Corolla Levin TE71 Super Silhouette

Of all Super Silhouette cars the Nissan Skyline RS Turbo DR30 was the most iconic, but as we know there were other cars as well. The Nissan Silvia S110 (and S12), Nissan Bluebird 910 and Mazda RX7 were the most well known. What I didn’t know yet was that there also was a (private) Toyota Corolla TE71 sibling:

It looks a bit like a minified version of that famous Silvia S110! The car is actually doing quite well: it ends up at the third place! An amazing result!

Hilarious: hachi roku (AE86) day!

Happy Hachi Roku day! :)

Like you probably know or already read/heard it is today hachi roku day!
What is hachi roku day then? From Japanese hachi translates into 8, roku into 6 so in other words: 86. Today it is August sixth. Get it? If you are from Europe probably not, but in Japan and the US this date reads 8-6, hence it is hachi roku day today! ;)

To celebrate hachi roku day I have some funny AE86 videos for you today! Let’s kick off with the AE86 dry run:

So how about a Corolla E80 FWD vs RWD commercial comparison? South African FWD:

vs US RWD:

If it were for the moonwalks alone I’d surely pick the FWD!

Now how about the epic old man George doing donuts?

And to prove the hachi roku can also be cute:

hachirokuuuuuuuuuuuuu! :D
I think I still have to give some education on my son: he claims my Carina is a racecar (yay!) but he can’t say roku-rei yet!

JCS 2010 highlights (part two)

Let’s continue (and finish) the highlights of Japan Classic Sunday 2010!

First of all these two blue Corolla KE30s drew my attention:
Two Corolla KE30s
Two Corolla KE30s

Two Corolla KE30s
Two Corolla KE30s

I briefly spoke to the owner and his buddy. They surely love to keep these old Rollas alive! :)

Another Corolla, but this time PetzK’s AE86:
PetzK 3 door AE86
PetzK 3 door AE86

It finally returned to its home soil (it used to be a Dutch 3 door!) and the car looks even better than on the pictures I saw before. Too bad I didn’t have the opportunity to chat! :(

Talking about 3 door AE86s:
Ibrahims red 3 door Levin AE86
Ibrahims red 3 door Levin AE86

He won second place in the youngtimer class (two years ago he became first). Winning a price on the JCS is not a bad thing, but winning twice is a very good thing! Congrats again Ibrahim! :)

Iwan brought both his Datsun Super Six and this Datsun 280C wagon:
Datsun 280C (Nissan Gloria/Cedric 430) wagon
Datsun 280C (Nissan Gloria/Cedric 430) wagon

Datsun 280C (Nissan Gloria/Cedric 430) wagon
Datsun 280C (Nissan Gloria/Cedric 430) wagon

Datsun 280C (Nissan Gloria/Cedric 430) wagon
Datsun 280C (Nissan Gloria/Cedric 430) wagon

Not only can this 280C bring along 8 passengers (!) but it also has a small side window that can be operated through the keyhole in the back (seen in the last picture!). It was meant as a feature for Japanese people who returned shopping and wanted to load their groceries into the car without stepping off the pavement! Talk about (useless) innovation! :D

And last but not least, this Corolla Levin BG-Z AE111:
Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G AE111
Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G AE111

Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G AE111
Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G AE111

Believe it or not: this car is an original Luxembourg car! A collector from Luxembourg ordered this RHD car through a Toyota dealer directly from Japan, so this is one of the few original AE111 delivered outside Japan! Amazing!

That’s it for JCS 2010! Can’t wait for JCS 2011! (if that is ever going to happen!)
