Timelapse video: drawing Zsolts Carina TA62 – Carina Sightings

Last week I featured Zsolt’s Carina TA62 drifting on a track day. Today I feature the same Carina, but this time it’s a timelapse video by someone drawing it. And the drawing isn’t a screen capture of someone working in Photoshop either, but rather someone drawing everything by hand using pencils, fine liners, rulers, markers and more!

Hybrid 2T/3T-G powered Carina TA63 – Carina Sightings

Here in Europe, there were three choices of engines for the third-generation Toyota Carina: 1.6 litre 2T, 1.8 litre 3T and 1.8 litre 1C. The 1C offered a mere 62 hp and 111 N⋅m. The 2T offered 75 hp and 120 N⋅m. The 3T adds about eleven extra horses over the 2T, which makes the grand total about 86 hp. So where does this oddball Carina with a 1.8 litre 3T-G come from then?

Unfortunately, we never got the double overhead cam 2T-G on our third-generation Carina. The 2T-G double overhead cam head adds about 40 hp to the baseline 2T. In theory, slapping that very same head on a 3T would then give about 125hp and loads of torque. That’s exactly what Zsolt (zsolesz_molesz) did to his 3T-powered Carina TA62 and he called it a 2T/3T-G hybrid and renumbered it to TA63!

Carina Sightings: Hungarian GA62

A few weeks back I found a video of a Carina TA62 on Youtube where it stated that it had received a 1G-E swap so I got interested in the project, especially as it is an Hungarian project.

So I commented on the video and received an email from the owner with links to these photos.

For the record this is the video and it is a bit hard to see: Continue reading

Carina Sightings: Czech TA62 coupe for sale!

Honza (aka Gred) sent me a link earlier this week with a link to a perfect Carina TA62 coupe. Apparently it is for sale for a mere 38000 Czech Koruna (1900 US dollars) which is next to nothing for a nice example like this one!

One of the first things that I noticed is that looks like it had a recent respray that is following the OEM JDM Carina panda paint scheme.

The second thing were the, obvious, deep dished wheels. Continue reading

Carina Sightings: stolen Carina Coupe TA62

This Carina Sightings is actually a very sad posting: I received an email from Arpad that he bought >AndrewGL’s Carina Coupe TA62 and that he was very happy with it…until someone stole it a couple of days ago! :(

This is how the Carina looked before it got stolen:

The thief was well prepared: they car was immobilized by removing the battery. Unfortunately that didn’t stop them.

The car is quite distinct: it is in the unusual brown/gold color (I guess 4A8), got a factory sunroof (rare!) and it features the deeper dished 14 inch Celica Supra wheels.

The engine is the 1.8 liter 3T and gearbox a T50.

The car was stolen last Thursday (18th August 2011) on the Mohai út in Budapest.
If you have seen this car, recognize parts of it or want to verify the VIN: please let me know and I’ll pass on the info to Arpad!

Carina Sightings: Carina TA62 Coupe in Czech republic

Today 86ers.org posted about the Czech duo Franz & Tonda. Franz & Tonda have a nice garage full of old JDM tin, like a Corolla TE71, a (almost deteriorated) AE86, a 280ZX, a Toyota MR2, a widebody Mitsubishi Starion and a TA62 Carina Coupe! :)

It turns out to be a familiar Carina for me: Franz already visited AEU86 in the past!

From the pictures the Carina still looks very nice, but if I understood Franz correctly the bottom is very very rusted and the interior is not too wel either. I really hope Franz and Tonda have time to restore the TA62 and stop its deterioration!

As you can see from the stance of the rear wheels the TA62 has the same live axle as the TA60 (and the AE86) and does not feature the IRS as found on the TA63 or AA63 (Japanese GT models). Nevertheless it would look pretty wild with some deep dish Hayashi Streets on it! :)

Single carb 3T engine

From the pictures of the engine I can see it has a single carburetor so it is featuring the 1.8 3T. Basically the same engine as the 2T in my Carina, but then with 0.2 liter more displacement than mine. Also a 3TC has a dual carb setup, so that difference is easy to spot. ;)

If you are curious to the other cars of their collection, you can find them here:
