Carina Sightings: Panda Carina coupe AA63

After last weeks sad news some good news: I got word from Arpad that his coupe was spotted with different licenseplates on it, so there is hope he will be reunited with the car! Nevertheless, if you spot it somewhere: don’t hesitate to contact me!

Now to get back on topic: I found this immaculate Panda Carina GT-R coupe for sale on Auctions Yahoo:

The buy-me-now price is at 1000000 yen (13000 US dollar) a bit steep but you will get a whole lot of car for that money!

First of all the car only travelled 110000 kilometer so far, the body is practially rust free (and in very good shape) and is still in its original panda paint with colorcode 041 (Super White III, only available on late models). Second of all the car features an oldskool period correct urethane lip and louvre rear window. Continue reading

Carina Sightings: stolen Carina Coupe TA62

This Carina Sightings is actually a very sad posting: I received an email from Arpad that he bought >AndrewGL’s Carina Coupe TA62 and that he was very happy with it…until someone stole it a couple of days ago! :(

This is how the Carina looked before it got stolen:

The thief was well prepared: they car was immobilized by removing the battery. Unfortunately that didn’t stop them.

The car is quite distinct: it is in the unusual brown/gold color (I guess 4A8), got a factory sunroof (rare!) and it features the deeper dished 14 inch Celica Supra wheels.

The engine is the 1.8 liter 3T and gearbox a T50.

The car was stolen last Thursday (18th August 2011) on the Mohai Ășt in Budapest.
If you have seen this car, recognize parts of it or want to verify the VIN: please let me know and I’ll pass on the info to Arpad!

Carina Sightings: Russian Carina hardtop coupe TA42

In the same thread as yesterdays Carina coupe there was a link to someones 1981 JDM Carina hardtop coupe TA42.

Even though the Carina is missing some (small) pieces of trim it still appears to be in quite decent state!

Especially the interior still looks great:

Here you can clearly see the difference between a coupe and a hardtop coupe: it doesn’t feature a B-pillar and therefore it is a hardtop. Unfortunately the hardtops never made it to the A60 series. :(

I love the weird thin tail-lights of the coupes:

And here is another thing that never made it outside Japan:
Russian Toyota Carina TA42 with fuel injected 3T-U
Russian Toyota Carina TA42 with fuel injected 3T-U

A fuel injected 1800cc 3T-EU engine that makes 105hp. An additional 20hp compared to the carburetted 3T we got in Europe and it certainly has a better (and cleaner) breath as well and comparable to the 2 liter 18R engines that could be found in the European Celica XTs.

IMO a very nice Carina and I would swap my Carina for this one any day!

Japanese rustoseums (part twentyfive)

In Google Analytics I saw a lot of traffic coming in from a Russian forum (forums.drom.ru) where my site was linked. It involved a request by ExperienceGT who asked if it was worth to persuade the owner of a Carina coupe TA45 to sell it and restore the car. Also in the garden this Carina coupe RA30/TA31 was rotting away next to the trash:

Even though it looks very rusted away it is definitely something worth to save! The first generation of Carina coupes is almost extinct now and, apart from the windows, it still appears to be complete. Of course you never know how badly rusted through the floorpan might be.

Carina Sightings: Roman’s SA60 Carina

I’ve been (slowly) watching Roman fixing up his AA60 Carina coupe. Every few months he posted another update or image on AEU86.org showing what progress he made, either a F series live axle, an engine bay spray or acquisition of a 3SGE. Two weeks ago his Carina came back from the paintshop and all he has to do now is to put that puzzle back together. :D

This is how the project looked half way in 2008:

And this is how it looks now in light greige metallic:

As you can see, most of the interior is already back in. Bumpers, fuelcap, fenders, headlights… A long list of (small) parts to be fitted.
BTW: those tail lights are his “spare” tail lights. Two (almost) new tail lights will be fitted when it is done!

As you can see I’m very excited about his project finally coming together! Can’t wait to see the pictures of his car when its done!

Carina Sightings: Carina in a field

The photo of this Carina GT-TR in a field really looks like it could be right out of the original Carina A60 catalogue:

I love the big fender mirrors and I wish I would have a larger version of the photo and print it as a large poster!
BTW: anyone got an idea what rims are on this Carina? They look a bit like Hayashi Streets but they clearly aren’t…
