Carina Trivia: Carina A60 weight distribution

A few weeks ago someone requested some specific data of the Toyota Carina GT RA63 and of course I did manage to find the data. One of the interesting things I found was that I was able to find the total weight, front weight and rear weights of all Carina A60 models in my data and hence could calculate the weight distribution. So after digging, copy/pasting I made a big overview of all the JDM body types, grades and model codes with their respective weight distribution.

Of course it is not that interesting to dig through each and everyone of them, but there are some nice giveaways. The most interesting is the averages I calculated: Continue reading

Carina Sightings: Rare Toyota Carina GT-R AA63 at Nikko Circuit

This morning I opened up Feedly and to my surprise the number one article was about this Toyota Carina GT-R AA63 at Nikko Circuit:

Dino Dale Carbonare spotted it at the Black Mark Day at Nikko Circuit and it really is an awesome car. The car is mostly stock except for the lowering springs and slightly rolled fenders. The black painted Techno Phantoms really suit the original dark grey Carina paint.

I am a big fan of Dino’s photography and lucky enough I was treated by photos like this one:

Magazines: Kaikki Karina – All About Carina

About two weeks ago I found an auction on Auctions Yahoo that sold two (old) magazines about the Toyota Carina A60 for a reasonable price, so obviously I was interested to buy it. I happily bid on it and two weeks later the both of them landed on my desk at work (thanks Buyee!):
Kaikki Karina: All about Carina
What I didn’t get from the auction text was that these magazines were actually from 1981 and 1982 and not new! The magazines are called Kaikki Karina (カリーナのすべて – All About Carina) and I suspect they were a long running Toyota Carina owners magazine.

The great thing about having these old magazines is that they actually include all sorts of time period extra information, like the design studies done for the Carina sedan: Continue reading

Carina Sightings: Ruslan’s Toyota Carina AA60 coupe timelapse video

I found this awesome Toyota Carina AA60 coupe timelapse video by accident on Youtube. The creator is called Ruslan and judging from the numberplates (correct me if I’m wrong here!) he is from the Ukraine.
Carina Sightings: Ruslan's Toyota Carina AA60 coupe timelapse
The timelapse video shows you how to plough through Ukrainian traffic in a Toyota Carina AA60 coupe. What especially is nice about the video is that his coupe has the optional digital dashboard and you can see it function very nicely. It looks just as awesome (and 80s) as the digital dashboard on the AE86 and Celica XX/Celica Supra.

You can watch Ruslan’s Toyota Carina AA60 coupe timelapse video below:

Carina Sightings: Toyota Carina AA63 Coupe

I don’t know exactly what it is, but this Toyota Carina AA63 Coupe is one of my favorite Carinas so far:
Carina Sightings best Coupe ever!
Even though this Carina coupe features the single headlights and the original seats have been replaced by a Bride set I still think it looks awesome!
Perhaps it is the dished rims (anyone know what type/manufacturer they are?) or maybe the side skirts? Or maybe both of them combined remind me of the AE86? (and the Carina being the better looker here! ;) )
