Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Celica Supra rims mounted on the car!

Yesterday evening I mounted the Celica Supra rims on the car!

Carina GT-R rims on the front rightside of the car
Carina GT-R rims on the rear leftside of the car
As you can see, the offset on the front is good, but on the rear the wheel hides in the fender. This is probably due to the axle being not wide enough for the car. Remember that the solid axle Carinas were featuring the same axle as the AE86 (Corolla) which is less wide than the Carina. I think I need some spacers now. ;)

As you can see I need some lowering springs as well. The front has positive camber (!) and the rear is also a bit too high…

Hilarious: Drift series special: Beauty Battle part 4 (final)

Well, I’ve finally finished this series… :)

Well, just when it started to get “okay” it became a bit more rediculous again: they add a 4AGZE to the hachi!
4AGZE setup in the Corolla Levin AE86

Well, you might think that adding a 4AGZE isn’t a big problem and should not be rediculous, well you are right! Adding a 4AGZE is one of the best options for the AE86! And it should be considered an “easy” swap. ;)

But the weird thing is that the engine sound isn’t changing afterwards! At least the Supercharger should make a whining sound and the engine should not rev that high anymore!

And no, they did not turbo the 4AGZE to 4AGZTE, see in the picture below. Apart from that they still have the 4AGE engine cover on it:
4AGZE setup in the Corolla Levin AE86 but still a 4A-GE cover on it?

So, my conclusion:
– Wrong translations
– Wrong production date of the car
– Just got a drivers license and already master of heel-to-toe
– Handbrake+revvnig at the same time
– Stabilizer for the wrong purpose
– 4AGZE without a change in engine note

Too many factors giving me this movie a bad aftertaste… I wouldn’t watch any other of the Drift! movies now…

Fast! Leather-covered wolf in sheep! part 2

In may I posted this really nice Carina AA63:
Nicely tunde Carina AA63 leather covered wolf front view

Guess what I found on Goo-net:
Very familiar Carina AA63 with 20v on Goo-net.com
Looks familiar?? On the first posting the van next to the carina has been removed and the surroundings have been blurred a bit more…

Nice thing is that we can read a bit more about the options on the car:
– Restorationnone (restorated??)
– 5 MT
– AC
– power steering
– plus power window
– 16-inch aluminum wheel (!)
– Aero parts attached
– Low-down configuration (do they mean lowered?)

And on the Japanse page it states the same as on the page of the garage:
5-valve turbo 4AG other interface details cooler oil cooler!

I think this is just about how I want my TA60 to become. :)
Only thing is that the car costs 1260000 yen, which is roughly 8700 euros (12000 dollars!). Compared to what it costs half a year ago (1630000 yen) that’s 25% lower already. Bargain!!
Anyone got a donation for me??? :P

Initial D Extra Stage 2 available

Today it’s exactly 9 years since Initial D Second Stage aired on Fuji TV! It made me think about that I read some time ago that Initial D Extra Stage 2 was coming soon. I totally forgot about it!! I went to the site of Avex Mode and saw it is for sale on 5th of december! :)

So, I dug a bit deeper and found out that it was announced to be aired on 3rd of october already. So that means I’ve missed it!!

Initial D Extra Stage 2 with Mako and Iketani in front of the Nissan Sil80

At least I got the trailer from the Avex Mode website:

Small spoiler: it features Mako and Sayuki again (and the Nissan Sil80), just like in the first Extra Stage, who will be racing a Black Altezza (probably a RS200). As you can see in the image above the video Iketani features this special and my best guess is that he goofs up again! This all should take place around the time that Takumi and Project D take on the Todou Juku racing school, so Mako and Sayuki should have improved their skills. ;)

A lot better to see the original flv than the resized versions on Youtube and Streetfire. ;)

Hilarious: Drift series special: Beauty Battle part 3

A month ago I already blogged about the Drift: Beauty Battle and last week I wrote part 2: the Drift: Beauty Battle part 2.

Today I watched parts 2 and 3 and boy it is baaaaaad! :D

Today’s highlights were:
Master of heel-to-toe technique while being clueless about driving/drifting
She just got her license the other day… Do I need to explain this more??

Drifting with the handbrake and pulling it through the entire corner and revving hard
Makes more sense to me to use the handbrake to loose traction and let it go and step on the accelerator while going sideways. The way she uses the handbrake is more how to perform a FWD drift, so doing that with a RWD should result in actually slowing down

Stabilizer bar against shaking in a corner
I think this is more due to something being lost in translation, but this is how they explain the stabilizer bar: it helps against shaking of the car when accelerating and with the same concept stabilizing the roof of the car.

Uhm… Well, it does help against tilting (shaking?) of the car when cornering, especially when accelerating in the corners. And of course it keeps your car horizontal (roof?) compared to the suspension. But how they explain it it is utter crap and only confuses the viewer… ;)
