Remembering Japanese cars from the past

DOTS: Honda Civic, Prelude and Hyundai Scoupe

On the first day of my vacation I woke up in the apartment of my parents in law, walked outside on the balcony and had this view:

Normally I would not have bothered with those two cars: they are too new, not my style and certainly not anything near I post on my blog normally. But when I looked better I also spotted this car parked near the other two:

So I grabbed my camera and took some pictures before they were gone. (???)

The Civic had received a big kiss from another car in its passenger door, but the picture I took from it doesn’t look great, so I discarded that one.

And I also made this shot of all three together:

DOTS: Subaru Justy J12 4WD SLII

Another DOTS from my vacation in Hungary: I drove through a small town with a junkyard and spotted a tuned Corolla with big foglights up front. I wanted to take some pictures of the Corolla but it was an EE80 model, too far away and half hidden behind other vehicles. Then I spotted this faded Subaru Justy (aka Subaru Rex in Japan) next to the fence:

I already saw that the Justy was an 4WD model. The 4WD is very rare in Holland: there is absolutely no use for 4WD unless you are a farmer. But then again: which farmer wants to drive around in a Justy??

Back home I found out it is the Justy J12 4WD SLII version. Basically it means it is powered by the superior 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine. In 1988 the 4WD Justy on the Mk1 was introduced in Europe and the Justy got facelifted to a rounder model in 1989. This means this car can only be an 1988 or early 1989 model then.

The 4WD models were only in 2 door trim (not very logical IMO) and this one is no exception. 😉

I could not take more pictures than this: there was a big trench next to the fence, so either the view would be blocked by the car next to it, or I would be standing inside the trench.

I also failed shooting the first picture of the car: I had been playing with the whitebalance of the camera the day before and forgot to switch back to normal mode. Back home I saw how that turned out:

Now the paint even looks more faded! 🙂

Maybe someone can turn this car into a small drifter? The car is a full time 4WD with a LSD on the rear axle, so only cutting the front axles would transform this Kei-car into a Kei drift car! Or maybe someone wants to turn this beautiful rare Japanese car into a rat look? The paint has already faded and it already has a rack on its roof! 😉

DOTS: Suzuki Swift with Hello Kitty exhaust tip

I’m back from my vacation so now I will post more regularly on the blog again! 🙂

I’ll start with some vacation pictures of a second generation Hungarian Suzuki Swift (aka Suzuki Cultus in Japan) I spotted on the second day:

Nothing special you think? Well, look again at that exhaust tip:

I did see some pictures of these things on the internet but never saw one in real life! So of course I had to shoot these two pictures of it. 😉

DOTS: Nissan Sunny Coupe B12

This Nissan Sunny Coupe B12 is mostly parked near my house. I spotted it several times and even though it doesn’t look like it moves regularly: it move every day!

The car is owned by, presumably, a window cleaner. His ladders are always mounted on top of the roof (never seen it without them) and in the trunk there are things like buckets and stuff.

Looking at the styling the car already went out of fashion in 1988, but as we know its 100nx predecessor became available in 1991.

The Sunny Coupe is a 1990 model. It is very near the Toyota Levin AE86 with styling and a lot of people confused it with that car. It features the GA16i 1.6 liter and produces 92hp.

DOTS: Scruffy looking Nissan 200SX S14

This bone stock Nissan 200SX (JDM name is of course Silvia S14) was parked from time to time outside the office building where I work. Just like the Celica Supra MA61 of last week it disappeared after a while.

More than half a year later I found it on the other side of town, badly parked under a tree and growing moss under it:

As you can see it has been parked here for ages!

In the meantime it must have gotten some damage either through being parked here or hitting something before because the left sidelight is now fitted badly (rightside of the picture):

The paint was already a bit bad when it was parked outside the office, but it only got worse:
Scruffy paint at the rear

The paint literally falls of the bumper now… Well, it is not that bad: the bumper can’t rust. 😉

I tried to capture the enormous amount of garbage in it, but I failed… All you can see is the crap on the outside
A lot of crap on the windshield
A lot of crap on the windshield

But believe me: there was a lot of fast-food wraps and stuff lying in it…

The funny thing is that the police did not tow away the car yet… You are not allowed to park your car within a radius of 4 meters from the corner of a street. The Nissan is clearly parked about 2 meters away from the corner. Ah well, it is probably the neighborhood: streets and corners are wide, so nobody is bothered with an ill parked 200SX.

DOTS: Toyota Celica Supra MA61 1985

A new feature shamelessly inspired by Jalopnik: Down on the Street! Also shortened as DOTS. 😉

Even though Jalopnik is posting about every car they can take a picture of I will try to limit myself to special or old JDM tin.

I will kick off with this nice Toyota Celica Supra MA61 parked near the office of my work. For a while I spotted it on a daily basis and when I finally did bring along a small pocket camera it wasn’t there anymore. Lucky enough it re-appeared only once and I shot a couple of pictures.

When I returned home and put the pictures on my laptop I noticed almost all pictures were crap. The camera is an old small pocket size camera so it just takes 3 or 4 pictures and averages them, resulting in only two “okay” picutures. I noticed this after already taking a lot of pictures of other cars… I think I’ll have to buy a new pocket size camera with some better capabilities than this one. 🙁

DOTS: 1985 Toyota Celica Supra MA61 with 5M-GE engine

The Celica Supra is a facelifted model featuring the 5M-GE, factory extended fenders and 14 inch 7J rims. In other words: the most desirable of the Celica Supra MK2! 😉

The exterior used to be better than this, especially when I first saw it. Back then it was a low mileage car and the interior still looked stunning. When I took these pictures it looked a bit less “out of the showroom” than before, but it still looked very well for its age!

I haven’t seen the Celica Supra ever since, but I suspect it was owned by the same person leaving a note under the windshield wiper of my Trueno a few years ago. 😉
