Family Album Treasures: Group C

February 23, 2012 in Family Album Treasures

Back in 1983 the Group C races (prototypes) were the main event at the Fuji International Speedway with its smaller brother Group 5 (Super Silhouette) being the teaser for the big race. Not surprisingly the Group 5 cars were way more popular than the Group C as they were looking like the cars in real life. One of the exceptions to this was the Hasemi Skyline Group C endurance racer that looked awfully similar to its Group 5 counterpart:

Same engine (570hp turbo charged LZ20b) but then with a lower, wider and more agressive looking bodywork! I would certainly pose in front of that as a little kid!

But why limit yourself to the Hasemi Skyline when there is also the Nissan Silvia March1: Read the rest of this entry →

Family Album Treasures: just as old as dads Soarer!

January 20, 2012 in Family Album Treasures

For some reason you don’t see too many Soarers in the Family Album Treasures. I think the average Soarer owner is just too snobbish to stand in front of their Soarer. But this one is actually exceptionally good:
Just as old as dads GZ10 Soarer
I love the way the little girl on the right points out that her baby brother is just as old as dads GZ10 Soarer. ;)

Also note that this Soarer features the rare original Toyota (PIAA) foldaway foglights. The covers just fold upwards when you engage them and I seriously would loooove to get my hands on a set of them!

Family Album Treasures: Turbo Skylining

January 14, 2012 in Family Album Treasures

This guy must have been passing by this beautiful skyline of a lake next to the touge and thought it would be nice to stand between the two skylines! ;)
Skyline RS Turbo R30
This scene also reminds me a bit of the end scene of the first Shuto Kousoku Trial, but I guess that must be the Skyline plus the typical 80s fashion.

Family Album Treasures: touge eating Civic!

January 7, 2012 in Family Album Treasures

No, this 80s E-AT Civic does not literally eat the touge… It is rather reversed: the touge eats up the Civic’s tires. ;)

But that doesn’t matter much to its owner since it is Toda powered…
Definitely a snapshot I’d like to keep in my family album. ;)

Family Album Treasures: grape and pear picking TE37

December 8, 2011 in Family Album Treasures

Ah, those fond memories of picking grapes and pears 33 years ago when we were still driving that Toyota Sprinter TE37 hardtop coupe…
Sprinter TE37 visit 30 years ago
That’s what this guy had when he saw this photo of the Sprinter together with cousin Sue.

So he returned back to the farm located at Kagaya in Akita 33 years later: Read the rest of this entry →
