Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Let’s make this happen: Initial D legos

Yesterday I received an email (sent to AEU86) from Denil Oh if we could run his Initial D legos box proposal on our forums. Of course we could, and even better: we’ll promote the heck out of it as it needs 10000 supporters to get it to reality and that sounds like it would be doable!

The Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 complete with Takumi Fujiwara and the Fujiwara Tofu Shop the box would be an excellent starter for both kids and adults: adults (like me) remembering the series and buying the box for their kids to enjoy! ;)

This legos box proposal is so brilliant, the car is a really simple yet stunning design: Continue reading

AE86 Trivia: all Sprinter Trueno AE86 Black Limited facts

It is time to dig a bit deeper into the AE86 again and this time I had a specific model in mind: the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 Black Limited!
AE86 Trivia header
A total of 400 Black Limited AE86 were made in 1986 and all of them are Sprinter Truenos. So no Levins were available in the Black Limited edition! All Black Limited cars were graded as GT Apex.

This is the official brochure from 1986:

Fast forward 27 years and this is how some examples by Carland AE86 look today:

What are the key differences between the normal kouki Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 and the Black Limited?

  • Black (duh!) paint in colorcode (204) that was not available on the normal lineup.
  • Gold painted 5.5JJ x 14 inch rims (aka Snowflakes)
  • Kouki tail lights with a Black Limited mid section
  • Black Limited gold livery on the doors with a gold pinstripe
  • Golden Trueno grille logo
  • Black/grey/orange gauge cluster
  • Black/grey/orange leather GT steering wheel
  • Black/grey/orange leather gearshifter knob
  • Black/grey/orange interior

A very good example of the Black Limited orange livery: Continue reading

HaCHiRoCK FESTA 2013: The first impression

A couple of weeks ago I already suggested people to attend this years HaCHiRoCK Festa, but looking at the pictures I kind of regret that now. I hope the ones attending did not get too soaked!
HaCHiRoCK!! FESTA 2013
Yes it was raining cats and dogs!

For those unfamiliar with HaCHiRoCK!! Festa: it is an annually organised festival for hachi-roku (AE86) owners to attend. The reason why it is so popular is the number of cars: there is a limit of 250 cars maximum and in general they are sold out way before the festival starts. So if you are an AE86 enthusiast and going there will guarantee that you will have a good time!

For me it is always an issue going there as I simply do not live in Japan and unfortunately presenting stuff on conferences around my job does extend to Japan… So I’ll just have to do with scraping Minkara and other Japanese resources for photos and videos.

I’ll post more interesting/weird/wet/ae86/levin/trueno/whateverdrawsmyattention pictures in the upcoming days!

HaCHiRoCK FESTA 2013

I kind of forgot about this meeting until I realized that it is already September. And September is HaCHiRoCK FESTA month, right?
Well it isn’t…
HaCHiRoCK Festa 2013
It will take another month *before* we can actually drool over all the photos of those beautiful hachis… Or actually get the hell over to Japan and visit the Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest on the 20th of October…

And they actually made another effort of surpassing the awesomeness of the 2012 flyer. Well done guys!
