Even before the famous Ken and Mary C110 commercials Nissan was marketing the Skyline to be the car for the young and sporty couples, including the G18 Skyline GC10 deluxe around 9:08. Funny how his beret changes into a hat within a few seconds…
Don’t be fooled by the first commercial: that’s a model from the previous S50 generation Skyline.
Mental note: If I ever buy a Skyline C10 I’ll definitely have to buy a beret as well!
I found these lovely Ken & Mary Skyline C110 stickers in my Valentine’s day search yesterday:
Ken & Mary Skyline stickers
According to the text the owner inherited a bunch of brochures and stickers from his dad. Continue reading
Music from commercials always have been successful if the product caught on. This was especially the case for the Nissan Skyline in Japan: apparently there were many vinyl records, cassette tapes and CDs sold with the music of the Skyline commercials.
A plumber driving a Kenmeri Skyline GT-R? Well, not entirely true: Huminori Watanabe is a plumber and he drives a Nissan Skyline KGC110 GT-R imitation.
Plumber drives Nissan Skyline GT-R replica
Okay the title may be a bit click-baity and this plumber doesn’t come to your house in his Kenmeri Skyline. But the fact remains that this plumber actually owns a Nissan Skyline GT-R C110 replica! It looks and feels the same, but if you listen well you will notice the engine sound isn’t exactly the same…
And if you look careful enough you will notice this Kenmeri Skyline GT-R has a SOHC L20A or L24 inline six and not the DOHC S20 that featured in the GT-R. In other words: it’s a KGC110 and not a KPGC110. Still a very cool car to do your plumbing in! 😀 😀
This Japanese Nissan Note ad has been around for some time now. It features two guys called Rose and Mary who want to make their own Nissan Note:
This is the translated text of Rose and Mary: Hi im mary! Hi? im rose! rose&mary we are! we’re going to make a Nissan NOTE. Wow! First you attatch the tire! tire! …it’s no surprising! then attach Steering wheel! Steering! and brake pedal! brake! and one more brake? pedal! brake! Good milage! Good milage! and Milage Meter’s there so that you can make the milage at a glance! at a glance? clearly! Good milage! Good milage! and break pedal! more break!? Good-mileage,? fun-to-drive. Nissan NOTE
I have no idea if the pun of this commercial is supposed to be the Ken & Mary Skyline reference, but it surely would be very funny if it were!
We all know the Nissan Skyline C210 was better known as the Skyline Japan. What we never saw so far were the commercials featuring a Ken and Mary driving the C210 while Mary states she loves Japan.
There are some gems between these commercials: the helicopter commercial is quite good and the very un-ken&mary 2000GT commercial is also very 80s. Funny to see how Ken and Mary never seem to age at all!
