Friday Video: Keiichi Tsuchiyas old drift cars

We all know that Keiichi Tsuchiya loves his kouki Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 drift car, but did you know he owned a couple of other legendary cars before that? For instance this Nissan Skyline 2000GT GC10?

In this Best Motoring video Keiichi Tsuchiya explains what cars he used privately to tear up the touges: a Nissan Skyline 2000GT GC10, a Nissan Sunny 1200 GX5 B110, a Toyota Starlet S KP61 and a Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-V AE86.

Video: The very first Best Motoring Hot Version

Last week I discovered Ka Ko (via Rocketpencil) who posts Best Motoring videos on an almost daily basis! :)
One of the gems he posted last week is the very first edition of Best Motoring Hot Version:
Video Best Motoring Hot Version first volume
As you can see there is a thrilling battle in this episode: the infamous Keiichi Tsuchiya battles with an (almost stock) Toyota Corolla Levin AE86 the (back then) brand new Toyota Corolla Levin GT Apex AE101 featuring the new 20 valve Silvertop 4AGE. The battle is very very close even though the AE101 has a lot more power under the bonnet!

What else can you expect from Best Motoring Hot Version Volume 1?
– Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 vs Toyota Trueno GT-Z AE101 vs Honda Civic EF
– Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 (superstrut) vs Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 (non-superstrut)
– Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 (superstrut) vs Toyota Levin AE86
– RX7 Drift vs Grip
– Group A Nissan Skyline GT-R cup with Keiichi Tsuchiya drifting his Taisan GT-R R32 on a wet Fuji Speedway!

Video Option: Motoharu Kurosawa tests the Leopard F31

Long before Keiichi Tsuchiya earned his stripes in racing Motoharu Kurosawa dominated the Japanese GP in his hakosuka Skyline GT-R. The same happened with reviewing cars for Video Option magazine: long before we became familiar with Keiichi pushing any Japanese sports/racing/tuned car to the limit on a touge run Motoharu Kurosawa was doing the same:

Looking at this September 1988 review of the Nissan Leopard F31 it becomes clear a lot has changed in the past 24 years, for instance the tests that mattered: Continue reading

Old footage: when different things were sexy!

This dated footage of the 24 hours Tokachi International Speedway reveals more than once that back in 1995 different things were considered sexy:

No it doesn’t end with the car lineup (mostly Skyline R33s) but fast forward to 5:33 for some ladies, to 6:03 for Keiichi’s glasses and 6:27 for some 80s gran tourers in some two wheel action!

Dorikin test driving Nomukens Skyline ER34

Yesterday I posted an old video I downloaded once. Can you still remember the days before internet video sites like Youtube? Basically everybody downloaded and swapped movies online. I still remember having an FTP login on a server in Japan where grassroots videos were uploaded now and then…

Anyway, another one from the old shoebox: Keiichi Tsuchiya driving Ken Nomuras Nissan Skyline ER34. Video should be from somewhere 2001 or 2002: Ken Nomura started driving the ER34 in 2001 and I downloaded this video in 2002.

Judging from the old-man style driving the Dorikin did not really think it was that exciting to drive…
