Remembering Japanese cars from the past

My Carina: Marchal yellow foglights

Some people may have read it on Twitter: I bought myself a box full of yellow foglights.

When driving there (and trying to find my way through Zoetermeer) I was navigating on the map. At a certain point I noticed a white Prius in my rear view mirror, when looking at the map and back to the rear view mirror it changed into a very well known front of a car: a R33 GTR! Damn, that was a shock! GTR passed me and gave the driver a thumbs up. ;)

If you look at the box it will contain four times a yellow Marchal foglight and two times a yellow Cibie foglight. Two of the Marchals are broken (lights/wiring/casing), but the other four are perfectly fine! :)

Well, this is the one I was actually after:

And they are surely worth the drive! :)

So, for the people with difficulty of remembering my Carina: this is what the Carina looked like.

And now it looks like this:

Without the black/white Marchal covers these foglights look a bit less sporty…

Carina sightings: two Carinas and a Corona drifting

More than two years ago I posted my wallpaper @ work:

Twin drifting aa63 carina 4dr, aa63 carina 2dr and T142 Corona 2dr coupe

Yes, two Carinas and a Corona doing a tandem drift!

Well, today you can see this exact picture in motion in this video:

The white Carina sedan is an AA63, the black Carina coupe is also an AA63 and the Corona is an AT142. That lovely sound is from the squealing the tires and those three 4AGEs screaming down that corner! I love it! :)

BTW: Currently I have a different wallpaper (to be precise: an orange Luxembourgh Levin), but I think this is a good reason to switch back to this one! ;)

Car chases: chase the pedestrian

This car chase video actually starts with a Nissan Laurel C230 chasing a pedestrian. Apparently this woman is very scared of the Laurel (or its driver) and fakes being hit by the Abunai Deka Nissan Leopard.

After that an exciting chase between the Leopard and the Laurel starts!

A lot of cars can be seen in the background: at 0:28 a brand new Toyota Celica AT160 can be seen (parked next to an A60 Carina sedan!) and a few seconds later an A60 Carina coupe parked in the far background. And let’s not forget the white Honda Today at 0:56! Another white Carina A60 coupe can be seen at 2:03, a KE70 van at 2:06 and as a bonus a 300ZX Z31 at the traffic light!

Now can you name more than these cars?

Carina sightings: my Carina on Google Streetview

Google Streetview has been updated in the Netherlands yesterday. Of course I checked some familiar spots first including my house.

For some reason the images of my house are mixed up with the images of a street right next to it. Fortunately enough there are images of my Carina on Streetview:

Unfortunately this is the only “good” picture I could capture since the other images were from the street next to mine…

I also found some of the Down on the Street entries as well, so I’ll post them next Sunday.

Carina Sightings: Slammed Carina AA63 sedan

Okay, it may not be as ground scraping as the Carina firevan, but it surely is lowered a lot compared to normal Carinas (like the one right next to it):
Slammed Carina AA63 sedan

In some way it made me think of the sedan version of the Carina firevan: both slammed, deep dish rims and of course its red color… On the other hand this one is a bit over the top: a set of fender flares and a big beacon light on the roof.

It looks like the car had a clear headlight conversion as well, so at night it will probably look real mean! If I would live in a RHD country I would definitely gotten such a set for mine!

Unfortunately I don’t have anymore pictures nor info on this Carina than this. The picture was taken by one of my favorite Japanese blogs ( zenswd ) on a meeting but he didn’t give much more info than this.
