Carina Sightings: Finnish Carina Coupe AA60

Most of the time I when I try finding other Carinas I spend a lot of time on Google Images. This week it proved once again to not be a very good too in finding Carinas: the Finnish site Minunauto (Finnish Cardomain/Minkara) is badly indexed by Google and once I did a search on the site it proved that Finland must be next to Japan the country with the most active Carina drivers/owners! I found at least 25 new Carinas!!

This one was one of the most striking Carinas: a DX coupe AA60, powered by a 4AFE!

Most people would go for the 4AGE road, but somehow the owner of this Carina didn’t do so, Perhaps it is because the early generation of the 4AFE is carbureted and easier to swap…

In contrary of the kouki JDM GT models this car features the wheels from a limited edition 280ZX during wintertime. They may look the same in the basic design, but they are different. Also note that in the picture above the rims are a bit more exotic than these. ;)

Nevertheless they look really nice in combination with the bodykit! I really wonder what kit that actually is from…

OMP steering wheel and custom tach make the interior look like a serious racing machine…

And here is the 4AFE:

Note that the distributor has been relocated (transverse 4A engines have them located at the back) and the exhaust manifold is a custom job.

And last but not least:

This is how good a EUDM Coupe can look! ^_^

Carina sightings: Carina SG Coupe AA60 with digi dash!

I found this great looking Carina SG Coupe AA60 on Cardomain:

According to its owner the car was produced in 1988 and imported to Malaysia in 1991. Being produced in 1988 means it has been catted with a sedan VIN since the coupe was discontinued in june 1985 or it was imported and put on papers with a different build date… Either way it is still looking great for its age! ;)

What I really love are those deep rims! They make the car look a lot more aggresive!

I didn’t know the AA60 came with a digidash as well, but apparently it could have been ordered as an option. It must be original since its redline is set at 6000rpm.

Also a very nice feature according to the owner: when the car reach 105+km/h, the dash board will ring the warning “ding dong” continues until u slow down… -_-. Definitely want one now! :D

And what is under its bonnet nowadays? Its 1.5 liter 3A-U has been swapped for a 4AGE in june 2009! :)

Can’t wait for more updates on this car!

Commerical time: Carina Jeune commercial

Brilliant! Someone uploaded the Toyota Carina SG Jeune commercial yesterday!

As you can see the girl sticks a Japanese Young Driver Mark on the Carina, hops two or three time of joy before pointing to the reverse backup warning system and the amount of lock you can have on this Carina! Also Sonny Chiba makes his cameo at the end of the commercial.

The Carina Jeune AA60 was available with this, back in the 80s, very sophisticated system:

The Jeune included four sensors in the rear bumper calculating the amount of space between the Carina and the car behind it. It showed on the warning sign, mounted on the rear shelve, in green, yellow and red how far you are from the obstacle behind you. Probably a very crude version of the systems we have nowadays!

The Jeune had, of course, also power steering and an automatic gearbox. So in other words: a very expensive edition of the Carina SG AA60 for those salarymen (Sonny Chiba?) who has to buy a car for his wife and daughter and doesn’t trust their driving skills at all!
