Commerical time: Honda Quint

I was re-reading some of the old magazines and in a volume of Practical Classics from a few years ago they were featuring the Honda Quintet, aka the Honda Quint in Japan. So of course I started looking for old commercials of the Quint and Quintet:

Wow! What a cheesy 80s synthesizer tune! And look at those special effects!

The Honda Quint was literally filling the gap between the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord: the car is a lengthened Civic with a mix of Civic and Accord bodypanels, and most importantly: the Accord 1.6 cvcc engine!

It is also funny to see where the Honda Integra started from: the 1985 Integra was initally lauched as the Honda Quint Integra in Japan!

Commerical time: Mazda RX-3 goes hmmmmmmmm

Sorry: yet another non JDM commercial, but this one is surely funny as hell:

Piston engine goes boing, boing, boing, boing. Mazda engine goes Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I wonder what would have happened if he had a piston engined Mazda then… Would she have dumped him before they went on that picknik trip?

Commerical time: Mixed bag of Toyota

Got a mixed bag of Toyota commercials from Japan: Starlet KP60 Trans Europe trial, Corona T100, Celica XX mk1, Chaser MX30 and the KE30 saloon!

Even though I live in Europe, in a country next to Germany I still have no idea what the Trans Europe Trial actually is… It must have been something like Toyota wanted to prove the Starlet was an excellent car for European roads, therefore it would certainly be an even better car for the Japanese roads!

The Corona T100 looks like it would have been sophisticated back in a day, but with those features (central warning light, 5mph bumpers) you can even find on BYDs nowadays!

And that Chaser MX30! Of course if you first run it flat out on the saltflats (who put those lines there??) you definitely need to wash your hair!

Commercial time: 80s greatest hits with Cultus GTi

The decade of the Ohs (or The Noughties as the British call them) has almost ended now, so how about some greatest hits from the 80s?

The Final Countdown by Europe
Which 80s song is more 80s than this song? I can’t think of any other song…
The heel-to-toe is a nice touch! ;)

West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys
It is nice to see how the Cultus GTi rev meter mimics those amp meters you could find on every early 80s stereo!

Love Changes Everything by Climie Fisher
Back in the 80s I really hated those cheap songs by Climie Fisher, but in combination with the engine revs and tire squeal it gives a whole new dimension to this song. ;)

Died In Your Arms Tonight by Cutting Crew
Another one of those typically 80s songs. Now I hope the dying part of the song is supposed to be in a positive way or was it supposed to mean the car didn’t have any safety precautions like airbags? :D

The Suzuki Cultus SA310, could there be anything more 80s than this?

Carina sightings:Carina A40 commercials with Sonny Chiba

After last weeks puppy saving Carina with Sonny Chiba we have two other Carina videos featuring him:

The Sporty Special looks like a great car to me! Could it have been a special version of the Carina GT coupe TA45 or was it just the ordinary LX or XT?

How about Sonny Chiba driving the Swiss Alps then?

Lovely sight to see the Carina coupe driving through the mountains! Even the Swiss Rescue give their thumbs up!

Commercial time: Mitsubishi Galant Sigma Eterna

Some time ago I already featured the Mitsubishi Galant Sigma seats in the Commercial time features. I found these 1985 Mitsubishi Galant Sigma Eterna (hardtop) commercials:

Judging from the shot featuring the woman at the rear seats they still loved to put in those fluffy seats. Also the song in the video goes on about You haven’t changed a bit while it is clear that the car actually has changed 99% over its previous generation! Just have a look at all its new features!

Not only did it introduce the new V6 6G71 Cyclone engine, it also introduced the switch from RWD to FWD to the Galant lineup.

I really love these commercials: the Japanese voice-over pronouncing the Galanto Siguma Hardutoppo and the totally misplaced Cyclone promo! (It actually looks like a Dyson commercial!)

So the You haven’t changed a bit part did not apply to the car itself, but to its fluffy seats?
