Ordered new exhaust gasket

*Sigh*
Always when you have plans for the weekend something will come up and the plans are being cancelled. :(

Yesterday drove to work and the Carina started to make some ticking noise on the highway. Couldn’t figure out what it was and it was only there when the engine was under stress.

During lunchbreak me and a colleague of mine went to see what was wrong with the car and I was already thinking about bent valves or a broken torque converter…

Lucky enough it turned out to be a broken exhaust gasket and only a tiny bit of gasses escaped through it, so that’s why it sounded like a ticking engine. Tried to find the gasket through several part suppliers, but all they could offer me was a complete set of engine gaskets for 57 euros. A bit too much if you’re planning to remove the engine (2T) anyway.

On my way back the noise started to get worse and currently I think it will break entirely if I drive long distances. Also all power from the engine (wasn’t much anyway) is gone now, so I need to replace it asap.

Today I ordered the gasket through Toyota, and to my surprise the part was only 7.33 euros and would be delivered next wednesday. You may find it weird, but most parts of the Trueno were extremely expensive and had long delivery time. (some weatherstrip cost 149 euros and would take 3 weeks to arrive!)

Can’t wait till thursday when I can pick it up! :)

Googlopoly

Someone created Googlopoly. Indeed: Google is getting more and more a monopoly, so it should be quite right.

As you can see on the board it contains a couple of names which Google didn’t acquire yet, however it’s only a matter of time… ;)

Carina A6 catalogue scans

Just found this great Japanese website who scanned all Corona and Carina catalogues ever!

Ofcourse I already downloaded all Carina A6 scans and I will most probably mirror them here. :)

You can find them here:
http://toyopetcoronadeluxe.proj.jp/catalog/

And for your interest, I have these four catalogues:

Added last of the Carina A6 specs

Today I added the last of the Carina A6 specs. This time the S59-3 (March 1984) specifications which are the final specifications. Shortly after this folder the Carina A6 was fully replaced by the (already available) T160 Carina II.

As you can see the 2T-G is replaced by the 4A-GE and the GT is also available as GT-R.

I still haven’t figured out what exact the difference is between the GT and the GT-R except for the weight, width and ride height: the GT-TR and GT-R are 20 and 10 kg heavier, 1.5 cm wider and 1.5 cm higher than the GT-T and GT.

Also the pictures of the interior show that the R-spec is having bucket seats and power windows while the non R-spec is having normal seats (exact the same interior as mine except for the rear bench) and manual windows.

This probably means that the R-spec is more luxurious than the normal version. So if anyone has a definite answer to me: please tell me! :)

You can find the S59-3 specs here:

Added new Carina A6 specs

Added specifications for S57-9 and restructured the pages a bit.

As you can see the RA63 (18R) was discontinued and replaced by the TA63 which features the new 3T-GT 1.8 liter turbo engine. IMO that was a very wise decision: now the puppy saving Turbo model was introduced.

I also added the available colors from the S57-6 folder. I didn’t see any significant difference between the S57-6 folder and the S57-9 folder, so that one is accurate for the S57-9 folder as well.

You can find the specs here:
