Hilarious: Gumbay Dance Band

After last week’s hilarious entry of Fancy I have another one: the Goombay Dance Band.

The Gumbay Dance Band is a German Boney M spin off which best can be described as German Schlager music combined with Jamaican goombay music.

Just look at this fantastic clip:

The singer starts breathing fire, then starts singing Schlager and after a while just babbling some stuff (is that supposed to be the predecessor of rap???). He has a really nice, ahum, open shirt and with his golden curly hair he really looks like he is from Jamaica. ;)

It gets really hilarious when they start limbo dancing: those children doing limbo are crawling on the floor: that’s no limbo!! The male dancer sets the pole on fire and starts doing his limbo dance and eats the fire after passing the pole. What is this? A circus act?

Then we get a closeup of one of the woman dancers: scary!! She looks like a voodoo which!!

They still exist and still tour, so maybe you’re lucky and they will visit your town someday! Or you can just wait till 1:58 and write down their address and book them! :P

Another hilarious posting next week. :)

Car feature: Original AE86 cup racer from Holland Part 1

Some days ago Speedhunters posted some info about a 24 hours Spa Francorchamps AE86 and a BTCC AE86 Touring car. It made me remember that we still have an original AE86 cup racer here in Holland.

During the 80s there was an AE86 cup driven in Holland and Belgium. Most cars did not survive but some should still be hidden in sheds, just like this car from IJmuiden. After the driver( Mike van der Raadt) retired the car was cherished by one of it’s sponsors/creators put on display for almost 20 years. Only a short while ago it got sold to it’s current owner who is racing with it happily on Zandvoort.

Here is a video of the car starting:

More info about this car and the ae86 cup will follow next weekend. ;)

Hilarious: Fancy – China Blue

Since last week I am using Last.fm. Normally people would use it to listen to their favorite music and such. I found that it is actually a very good tool to find the lost treasures of music. :)

How to use it? Simple: think of a really bad band like for instance Modern Talking and use that band on Last.fm to play similar music. Be patient and wait for Last.fm to find those little gems for you. ;)

This week I found the singer Fancy with the hit China Blue:

Not only their music is horrible and stolen from Modern Talking, but they even copied their looks from other horrible bands/artists: the singer looks like how Michael Jackson wanted to look eventually, the keyboard player and drummer look like they were borrowed from Europe and the Chinese girl, who looks Thai to me, looks like she is played by Boy George. And those bright white smile of the keyboard player!! Directly stolen from Dieter Bohlen!

I’ll add another hilarious posting next week. :)

Fail: Google Chrome and Youtube

Just submitted this picture to Failblog:
Youtube fails on Google Chrome

As you can see: Google Chrome fails to play Youtube movies. I already tried Chrome on my blog and discovered than no Youtube videos would show up on my blog. After a small investigation I discovered that there is some security issue on Google Chrome and Youtube.com.

FAIL! :D

Edit @11:30: Apparently they fixed it now. Glad I was able to capture it. ;)

Spotted a Nissan Exa

Today I spotted a Nissan Exa while driving through town. It stopped at the junction which I was passing and followed 50 meters behind me for two or three blocks so I only got a good look at it at the junction. Of course I didn’t have my camera with me, so once again a cameraphone would be quite handy in these occurrences.

Normally the Exa is quite rare here in Holland since it was never sold here and normally was only imported from the US. However this model had a very distinctive front spoiler, so I looked it up and it appeared to be a Grand Prix edition which was only sold in Australia. Hmmm… Forgot to look if the driver actually was on the right side of the car…

The Exa looked like this:

As you can see the front looks very similar to the S12, but actually I think it looks rather more a like the Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno. Too bad it looks horrible at the rear and that it is wwd. ;)

While searching for Exa info I also found this great Nissan Sunny Turbo picture:
Nissan Sunny Turbo
Notice the mirrored “Turbo” writing on the grille. Imagine cruising and all of a sudden some car rushes in very fast. All you can see in your mirror is “Turbo” written on the grille… I love those small details on 80s cars… ;)

Thanks to the Nissan Exa club for their info about the Exa Grand Prix.

Carina Sightings: nothing in Hungary

I’m back from holiday in Hungary and I didn’t spot any A60 Carina at all. :(

However I did spot a red A60 Celica in Szombathely and in Körmend a silver USDM AE92 Corolla GT-S (JDM version would be a Sprinter Trueno). Unfortunately both times I didn’t have my camera with me… These are the times I miss a camera on my phone. :(
I told my girlfriend that the silver AE92 would be the successor of my previous car: the good old AE86 Corolla. In fact it would be not entirely true since my good old Corolla used to be a SR5 before TE71Corolla converted it.

This is what the A60 Celica looked like:
TA60 Celica ST
But then a bit more shabby and used. Well, what would you expect from a 26 year old Celica. ;)
The Celica did feature normal rims, so no Celica Supra or Pizza Cutter rims. It also featured the first generation popup-lamps so I suspect it was a TA60 Celica ST.

This is what the AE92 Corolla GT-S looked like:

But then in Silver of course…

I did spot some other special rwd cars, like a Nissan S14, Lada rallycar and a Datsun 1800. Maybe I’ll spot a Carina A60 next year? Who knows…
