I’ve been (slowly) watching Roman fixing up his AA60 Carina coupe. Every few months he posted another update or image on AEU86.org showing what progress he made, either a F series live axle, an engine bay spray or acquisition of a 3SGE. Two weeks ago his Carina came back from the paintshop and all he has to do now is to put that puzzle back together. :D
This is how the project looked half way in 2008:

And this is how it looks now in light greige metallic:

As you can see, most of the interior is already back in. Bumpers, fuelcap, fenders, headlights… A long list of (small) parts to be fitted.
BTW: those tail lights are his “spare” tail lights. Two (almost) new tail lights will be fitted when it is done!

As you can see I’m very excited about his project finally coming together! Can’t wait to see the pictures of his car when its done!

This Luce Cosmo (HB platform) is placed in a Beverly Hills surrounding with an American license plate. I’ve seen this advertising trick more often with these old commercials. Were the Japanese thinking that when a car had an American license plate and a sunny Californian setting it would be with loved by the Americans? Or has Amercian approval? Or had American style? Casey Dhnaram (owner of Shirtstuckedin.com and journalist for Speedhunters) opened up a relief fund for Japan: BTW: I didn’t even know Ebisu was damaged by the earthquake, but you can read all about it on their blog. So head over to Shirtstuckedin.com and donate through PayPal: Maybe not as rare as the rusty Cosmo collection but this Skyline DR30 collection is equally rusty and extensive! Found at [R31 House @ Minkara] Just by that: a Carina TA60 in my own hometown! :) So I explained I spotted exactly the same car as mine in the parking lot behind the fire department. He told me how to get there and I made a few snaps with the ancient phone I’m currently using (my own got stolen last week during a break-in). I also made one with my old analogue camera, but I’m still waiting for the black and white film developer chemicals so I can’t show it to you yet… The Carina was registered in 1983 as a beige car. It looked quite solid to me, didn’t have too much rust (except on the steel rims) and believe it or not: it is, just like mine, an automatic as well. Only big difference is that this car is a GL, so it features a more comfortable interior. ;) What better way to familiarize your daughter with drifting than have her play with your AE86 from now and then: Found at [RecycleR@AZR?SCP @ Minkara]
For sure this Luce Cosmo never made it to the US at all!
And I love the Kossumoo! at the end! :)
I’ve been thinking to myself over the past 24 hours, what can I possibly to do help? Fly over there and be a volunteer? Possibly! But for now I’ve setup this Earthquake Donation which 100% of the funds raised will be given directly to the Red Cross foundation of Japan and racetracks such as Ebisu Circuit which have been affected very badly as it’s located in the Fukushima region. Please donate whatever you think is necessary, every cent counts.
A very good initiative I’d definitely like to support!

I donated earlier today and it is literally two clicks to donate! :)

The Fairlady Z Z30 appears to be a bit out of place here…

Toyota Carina GL TA60
When cycling to work I spotted the rear end of a Carina on a (closed) parking lot of an office building on the other side of the parking lot of the local fire department. I stopped and a fireman opened up the window asking if I was able to find whatever I was looking for.

Judging from the buildings and mountain in the background I guess this picture was taken at Ebisu North
