A second-generation Honda CRX was a common sight for a long time. I used to see one zipping by once or twice a day. However, over a very short period of time they have all disappeared! Well, all of them except this one! I encountered this one during a grocery run during the summer of last year. I quickly took two photos and forgot about it until I scrolled through my photo timeline a few days ago.
Specs
This second-generation Honda CRX was registered in late 1991, making it one of the final CRX-es to be sold and registered in the Netherlands. In 1992, Honda replaced the second generation with the newer CRX Del Sol. It appears to be well-used and worn down in every aspect. Even though it’s showing its age, the current owner seems to be using it well!
Engine
It features the 1.6 litre D16 engine. I’m not sure if it’s the D16A8 or D16A9 engine as the engine rating on the registration marks it as a 91kW output. That matches the output of the cat-less D16A9 engine, but I seriously doubt cat-less cars were allowed to be sold in the Netherlands by 1991. Regardless of that, this CRX is seemingly powered by some additional electrical source: Pikachu!
Both front mirrors feature the head of Pikachu, so I think it must have some extremely powerful moves! In this photo, you can also see the roll cage that has been installed in the car.
Front lip
I don’t have any information about the front lip. I was able to find many shops selling this design, but none of those were branded. Judging from the aero, definitely some time and effort went into the design. I suspect it was created by some tuning shop and then copied by all sorts of knockoff brands. This could be a legit front lip but at the same time a knockoff copy. I simply don’t know…
(Iron) Tail spoiler
At the rear, no Iron Tail spoiler, but rather more a Rubber Tail spoiler. It has some battle scars on the rear: the rear fender seems to have been patched up. It doesn’t appear as rust damage, but rather more accident damage. Also, the rear bumper is an aftermarket replacement.
Wheels
The wheels are Pro Race 12 Black by Team Dynamics Motorsport. I have no idea whether these wheels are any good or not, but they look good on this little CRX and have the exact fitment needed!
Conclusion
I’m happy someone is still enjoying these little hatchbacks by Honda! The B16 engine may be the holy grail for CRX owners, but the D16 engine is still very capable!
Finally I do wonder about this decal on the rear quarter window. Does this mean this little Honda CRX Pikachu is an Officer Jenny killer?
