Mr Yumio at Youtube just uploaded his private drift videos from 1990 till 1993. Half of the content takes place at local drift events but the other half is shot on various touges. You really can see how things evolved since this early 90s drifting!
It is interesting to observe in this video that most cars at the touge are old “disposable” cars. For instance the Nissan Skyline R30 and Toyota Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno AE86 are popular cars. At the circuit a lot of new cars can be seen: Mazda RX7 FC, Nissan Silvia S13, Nissan 180SX, Eunos Roadster and a Toyota Soarer Z30. Still the AE86 is ubiquitous at the circuit as well.
Other extraordinary cars seen at the touge are: Nissan Skyline GT-R PGC10, Isuzu Piazza, Isuzu Gemini PF60 and a hot Nissan Sunny B310. At the circuit the most odd thing is a second generation Honda CRX SiR drifting in reverse!
There are many many many videos to be found on the Nissan Skyline GT-R PGC10 and I have seen most of them by now and most of them focus singularly on the racing history of the GT-R and/or coupe alone. That’s why I really like this particular video better than most of the others: it focuses on some of the developments done by Prince prior to the GT-R in the first part.
Mostly the development of the S20 engine contributed to the success of the Nissan Skyline GT-R PGC10 and its engine was a development effort of the Prince 380
And in the second part it also focuses on the other mechanical parts that made the Nissan Skyline GT-R an awesome car: Read the rest of this entry →
Shortly before Mr. Itirou Makoto Sakurai passed away (January 17th 2011) a DVD by Visual Museum appeared with an interview with him. The DVD covers the second (S54B), third (PGC10) and fourth (KPGC110) generations of Skylines. It could very well have been his last interview.
Just have a look at the trailer:
The music, short skirted female silhouette and montage: it all feels a bit 90s to me… Nevertheless a very promising DVD!
The ask sign in this picture caught my eye and made me wonder what the price of this marvelous original zenki Nissan Skyline GT-R PGC10 would be…
Just ask the price of this PGC10…
But I think I would not dare to ask: it would probably be way beyond my budget. Then again: if you don’t ask you will never know. 😉
