Carina Sightings: Carina’s twin Brother

MyCub uploaded these two videos containing all Corona Twincam Turbo TT140 commercials featuring Roger Moore (when he was still 007). The Carina GT-TR TA63 had the puppy saving Sonny Chiba, its twin brother the Corona GT-TR TT140 had Roger Moore jumping out of a truck!

On one hand I prefer Roger Moore because he got a bit more class (and so does the Corona), but on the other hand the Carina is more a ordinary hero’s car.
I love the last commercial with the three trucks saying “Toyota”, “Twincam Turbo” and “New Corona GT”.

In this second video we see more James Bond in the ads: with the classy ladies, the miraculous escape and the good endings! Continue reading

WTF: Toyota Corona Super Roomy

After Yesterdays Lincoln Touge Car I remembered I came across something very different some time ago: a Corona T170 Super Roomy!

A what??

Well, basically it is a standard T170 Corona, but then lengthened in the middle:

And it still has got those cheap hubcaps on it… :(

Well, at least you can sit very comfortable on those velours seats with all that extra space:

Apparently from what I found was that Toyota introduced the Super Roomy to celebrate the sale of the 10 millionth Corona in 1990 and offered this 210mm stretched limo in a limited run of 500 cars.

I can’t imagine many people actually bought this Corona! The Corona wasn’t that big, luxurious and only the extra space may be a bit more comfortable… Looking at it it may have been good as a rental limo or a extra luxurious version of the Corona Taxi lineup, but for the “normal” people it would not have been an attractive car. However back in the early 90s Japanese were just buying anything that looked more luxurious than what the neighbour had on his driveway. As the source mentioned: The Corona was a limo that had the common touch, like the car was a symbol of the bubble period.

Carina sightings: two Carinas and a Corona drifting

More than two years ago I posted my wallpaper @ work:

Twin drifting aa63 carina 4dr, aa63 carina 2dr and T142 Corona 2dr coupe

Yes, two Carinas and a Corona doing a tandem drift!

Well, today you can see this exact picture in motion in this video:

The white Carina sedan is an AA63, the black Carina coupe is also an AA63 and the Corona is an AT142. That lovely sound is from the squealing the tires and those three 4AGEs screaming down that corner! I love it! :)

BTW: Currently I have a different wallpaper (to be precise: an orange Luxembourgh Levin), but I think this is a good reason to switch back to this one! ;)
