Picture of the week: Cutaway Toyota Soarer MZ12

Straight from a Toyota Soarer Super Gran Turismo MZ12 brochure this cutaway picture was scanned in a very high quality:

What I really like about this picture is the details in the 3 litre twin cam 6M-GE engine. Even though it was sold midst of Toyota’s twincam era it only featured two valves per cylinder. If you look close enough you can really see it clearly.

Picture of the week: Cutaway Toyota Levin TE51

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Near the end of November I got terribly busy preparing to do a talk at the Percona Live London Conference where I was invited as a speaker. So naturally I had to drop some of my other duties… After I returned from London I got the flu and had to stay in bed for almost a week and naturally my wife and son also got the flu and I had to take care of them in the meantime.

So to make it up to you, something I found on the interwebs after reading on Jalopnik about a great reddit cutaway thread:
Cutaway Toyota Levin TE51
A very nicely cutaway Toyota Levin TE51!
Note that the 2T-G engine is the electronically fuel injected model. I never knew the TE51 already featured EFI, so you learn something new every day. ;)

Picture of the Week: Inspiration for Speedracer!

This picture of a Hino DEL RSB racecar from the prototype class reminded me of the Speedracer car greatly. The big exhaust pipes and tail fins just look too unreal to be true!
Hino DEL RSB with Crown VG10 v8 engine
Hino started racing with the Hino Formula DEL 900 in 1964, powered by Hinos famous 893cc Contessa engine. This car was succeeded by the Hino Formula DEL 1300 and the Hino DEL RSA both powered by Hinos 1251cc Contessa engine.

After Toyota took over the company they quicky altered the Hino DEL RSB to feature the Crown Eight VG10 2.6 litre v8 engine. Back in 1967 this V8 engine produced decent power (165ps) to propel this car to the first place in its class in the All Japan Sports Car Race. After its victory Hino even tried mounting this very same engine inside a Hino Contessa!
