Drive on the Shuto expressway K1 and K5 (1989 versus 2024) – Friday Video

I’ve featured Kamepo‘s amazing side-by-side videos a few times before, but never have I seen one that amazed me more than this one! It’s taking a drive on the Shuto expressway K1 and K5. This is a drive from Ota to Daikoku Futo and then over the Yokohama Bay bridge. If that wasn’t wild enough, the 1989 footage was shot early morning on the first of January. In Tokyo it’s a custom to watch the first sunset and the Yokohama Bay bridge is plastered with cars of people watching this!

Here are some of the highlights I found in this video: Daikoku Futo, USS Yokohama, a Nissan Skyline 2000GT C10, six Toyota Carina ED T160, a hotrod Mitsubishi Debonair, a Corona coupé T140 and a yellow Mazda RX-7 FD3S.

WTF: Mitsubishi Debonair Bridal design

I like the timeless design of the Mitsubishi Debonair: it is a compact version of a classy and luxurious American car. But this Bridal design special is really something extraordinary!

Not only was it suitable as a luxury car, with its fifth door the bride did not have the need to bow before entering the car. But what use is a fifth door when the wedding car has been retired?

To haul mopeds and other stuff of course!

Yes, no need to worry. Just open the fifth door and you will have enough room to put that moped inside the Debonair!

Car chases: Mitsubishi versus Nissan

Time for some more car chases! This time it is Mitsubishis versus Nissans!
Edit: embedding was disabled by the user. Click on the image to watch the video!

This video clip of Guerilla: Tokyo Police Group 8 shows what carnage a group of Nissans can do against the police Mitsubishis. Lucky enough Shou Kuramoto (chief Daimon in Seibu Keisatsu) kills off the rocket launcher. Unfortunately two perfectly good Nissan Gazelle S110s get killed instantly and the Cedric manages to survive a good 8 minutes. So the Mitsubishis prevail over the Nissans. Nissan versus Mitsubishi, 0 : 1.
