X-mas comes early this year!

Yesterday when I entered the office a nice big X-mas box (seriously!) was waiting for me and later that day another enormous box arrived at the office. I opened both of them yesterday evening.

The enormous box contained a 2T/3T gasket set:

I found this cheap set for as much as two of the inlet gaskets! IMO you can never have too much gaskets! :)

But what was in the X-mas box then?
What is in this box?
What is in this box?

You probably can guess that one already:

It is a 2T-B carburetor set! Giving an instant upgrade of 11HP on my 2T engine! That is almost an increase of 15% in horsepower! :)

And from the side it looks even better! :)

Remember last weeks posting with the webers??

So, what’s next? Well, I still need an air filter to complete the set. Whenever I find an original 2T-B air filter or an open air filter I will start installing this on the Carina! :)

Exhaust gasket repaired

Exhaust gasket got repaired last week. However it still leaks a tiny bit: the 4-2 header (made from cast iron) is bent a bit due to extensive heat and not completely pressing the gasket anymore.

Also the 2-1 pipe has a small hole in it, so I’m currently sourcing one to pass the MOT, which is due within two months already.

Anyone got two spare tires for me so I can pass that problem as well?

Exhaust gasket arrived

Just got a call this morning: the exhaust gasket arrived already! Much quicker than I expected. :)

Going to collect them this afternoon right after work. It will be a quite a hike for me since I found my bike chained to another this morning and the dealer is quite far away from the railway station. However I do expect to make that part within the 20 minutes I got and the weather is nice today.

So that will be a great hike through Amsterdam Zuidoost for me then. ;)

Ordered new exhaust gasket

Always when you have plans for the weekend something will come up and the plans are being cancelled. :(

Yesterday drove to work and the Carina started to make some ticking noise on the highway. Couldn’t figure out what it was and it was only there when the engine was under stress.

During lunchbreak me and a colleague of mine went to see what was wrong with the car and I was already thinking about bent valves or a broken torque converter…

Lucky enough it turned out to be a broken exhaust gasket and only a tiny bit of gasses escaped through it, so that’s why it sounded like a ticking engine. Tried to find the gasket through several part suppliers, but all they could offer me was a complete set of engine gaskets for 57 euros. A bit too much if you’re planning to remove the engine (2T) anyway.

On my way back the noise started to get worse and currently I think it will break entirely if I drive long distances. Also all power from the engine (wasn’t much anyway) is gone now, so I need to replace it asap.

Today I ordered the gasket through Toyota, and to my surprise the part was only 7.33 euros and would be delivered next wednesday. You may find it weird, but most parts of the Trueno were extremely expensive and had long delivery time. (some weatherstrip cost 149 euros and would take 3 weeks to arrive!)

Can’t wait till thursday when I can pick it up! :)
