Over one year ago I posted a series of drift videos on the Hakone mountain pass, shot somewhere in 1995. In this video the same mountain pass, about 3 years earlier and this time only a zenki Corolla Levin AE86 is doing its drifts:
This guy is a very skilled drifter, he drifts both up and downhill. At the same time he manages to keep the car within the lines of the outer lanes through the whole corner!

TonyA. from FuzzyFeeling posted some old videos from some Silvias drifting on Mikuni pass way way back in 2003 by Youtube user kcrmsr. kcrmsr posted some other videos as well so naturally I browsed all of them till there was no video left to watch. ;)
This one was a quite funny one, where he is doing an Itsuki in one of the Silvias (starting at 1:09):
People who have seen Initial D will probably know exactly what I mean with doing an Itsuki, for others: in the episode “The Rainy Downhill!” from Stage One Kenta Nakamura (member of the Red Suns) challenges Takumi for a downhill race in the rain on Mt. Myogi. Takumi accepts and asks Itsuki (who hitched a ride from Takumi) to sit on the rear bench of the Trueno. In effect Itsuki adds extra weight on the rear wheels while tumbling from left to right (and vice versa) through the interior of the Trueno.
As you can see, IRL it is the same. The guy can’t even sit straight while cornering the first three turns and on the last turn he almost ticks over…
Last sunday I posted some Touge drifting videos from 1995. The same user also uploaded a official drift video called Tuned Drift which apparently featured each month, just like Video Option once started.
The video contains only 3 seconds footage of a Carina GT-R AA63, but since it is ancient footage I did want to post the video anyway.
As you can see, it contains mostly Nissan Silvia S13s and 180SX RPS13s, a few AE86s and incidentally a Nissan Skyline R31, FC3S, Nissan Cifero A31 and a beaten up Toyota Chaser GX81.
One of the Levin AE86s (at 25 seconds) almost 100% resembles Wataru’s Levin in Initial D. Remember that Shuichi Shigeno only started drawing Initial D in 1995, so consider this pre-Initial D.
I must say that the Sprinter Trueno AE86 at 45 seconds is very nicely done. Actually it would still be very nicely tuned nowadays so it is definitely far ahead of its time!
