DOTS: Subaru SVX delivery van

Since I’m off today to the Japan Classic Sunday I’m not going to post an extensively long DOTS today… Instead another posting from the old (digital) archives! :)

How about a Subaru SVX used as a delivery van?

You read that right: SVX used as a delivery van! :D

Back in the mid 00s a Dutch broadcasting company (BNN) opened up a TV show where you could “win” a big thick (smoked) sausage by sending an SMS to their service. Your sausage would be delivered to your door in this Subaru SVX. Since that broadcasting company is located next to the office it was not unusual to see that car now and then.

Worstkoerier translates into sausagecourier, but it is meant as a pun because they would do a very bad job (being the worst courier).

They claimed the SVX actually had 340hp and could deliver your sausage with a highspeed 260km/h. Personally I think that was just bollocks to attract attention. You can still visit their website and see/read it yourself. ;)

Anyway, it was funny to spot a SVX being used in such extraordinary way!

DOTS: 1990 Nissan 240SX RHS13

Yesterday I was driving behind this 1990 Nissan 240SX and remembered I already shot some pictures of it about 10 months ago. I dug in the archive and decided it would be nice to post it as DOTS today!

When shot these pictures I was just on my way to the Nissan 200SX S14 rustoseum which is parked about 300 meter further down the road. The reason I shot pictures of the 240SX was because it looked 100% stock and was still clean as a whistle! That is kind of rare for every S13 in the Netherlands!

From this side you can see there is absolutely no rust at all:

When I saw the car yesterday I took note of the driver as well: it was an elderly gentleman who drove it like it was made of glass. In other words: a bit too careful. In that pace the car will certainly remain immaculate! ;)

The car looks a bit skewed due to the wobbly road and he really needs to change the springs: the car is leaning a bit to much to the back.

And if you even paid more attention you could have figured this spot is almost the same as the one where I took a picture of my Carina with the newly installed foglights.

DOTS: Two more Toyota FJ Cruisers

As I said last week in the Honda Beat DOTS: I would come back to the FJ Cruiser parked behind it… Well I want to talk about this yellow FJ Cruiser first:

I spotted it parked a few villas away from the 2005 light blue Honda S2000. I took some quick photos of it and put it aside (for better times…) and didn’t think about it for some time. Combined with the pictures of another yellow 2008 FJ Cruiser it was able to make it as a posting!

Even though they are both yellow and delivered in 2008 the two yellow FJ Cruisers are not the same car! This second FJ Cruiser had a different license plate and according to the RDW it had been converted to run on LPG. Somehow that sounds like a sane idea to me! :D

I think the huge number of FJs is due to the fact that the part of the Netherland I live in is quite popular for the rich and famous… FJ Cruisers are especially known as a fashion product, so I can imagine their popularity around here… But I never expected to spot three of them within just a few months time apart!

DOTS: 1992 red Honda Beat

I already thought finding a Toyota FJ Cruiser would be quite unique, but when I looked a bit further down the road I spotted a small tiny red cabriolet: a red Honda Beat! Opposed to the (RHD) Suzuki Cappuchino the Honda Beat was never sold in Europe, let alone in the Netherlands! So this Beat only drove 12 years of its life on the Japanese soil!

So unless you would go to a JDM car meeting this should be a quite unique shot!

I’ll come back to the FJ Cruiser in a later DOTS, this week is focussed upon the Beat!

Down on the Street: red 1992 Honda Beat
I did see a Honda Beat in the Netherlands before on the Japan Classic Sunday (see here and here) but in my memory that one was not as small as this one… Must be my memory backing up I guess..

The Honda Beat is such a tiny car that getting closer to the Beat didn’t result in the Beat getting actually any larger in sight! You could almost put one transverse in that FJ Cruiser!

Talking about transverse: the Honda beat did get a transverse engine in the rear: a tiny 656 cc with ITB (Individual Throttle Bodies) managing to squeeze 64hp out of that tiny engine without a turbo! Truly amazing! I wonder if the owner actually managed to squeeze out more…

Up front you can see some blueish aftermarket headlights and some nice rims (anyone got an idea what they are?), so probably the owner is an enthusiast! :)

DOTS: Miata hunting! (part 9)

How about a red Miata Hunting post for a change? Well, I did find these two cars parked next to each other a few blocks away from my house:

Which one would you choose? The 1968 Fiat 124 Spider or the 1991 Mazda MX5? Personally I would definitely go for the MX5 because of its reliability and (sorry to say!) the Fiat for its looks! I think the owner of these two cars had the same problem. ;)

Not much to say about this one… Was parked at house while I was on my way to work and I took a quick picture with my phonecam.

DOTS: Cars with identity crisis

Sometimes you come across cars with some form of identity crisis. It is easy to spot the obvious like a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer as an EVO VI or something like that. But sometimes you can come across cars that think they are actually from another brand, just like this Honda Civic EG thinking it is a Mazda MX3:

According to these fake stick on chrome letters it is a MX3:

And the owner actually knows he is driving a Honda Civic since he also stuck that on the hatch as well!

Another one with identity crisis is this Nissan Navara (aka Hardbody Truck in the US):

The owner clearly owns a VW Type 2 T3 van so maybe the ornament of the VW mysteriously traded places? Or maybe a silent wish of the owner?? Or maybe he was inspired by my posting about a Nissan 720 pickup with a similar identity crisis! ;)
The car is not a Nissan Navara but a VW Taro (rebadged Toyota Hilux)!
