Carina Sightings: Panda Carina coupe AA63

After last weeks sad news some good news: I got word from Arpad that his coupe was spotted with different licenseplates on it, so there is hope he will be reunited with the car! Nevertheless, if you spot it somewhere: don’t hesitate to contact me!

Now to get back on topic: I found this immaculate Panda Carina GT-R coupe for sale on Auctions Yahoo:

The buy-me-now price is at 1000000 yen (13000 US dollar) a bit steep but you will get a whole lot of car for that money!

First of all the car only travelled 110000 kilometer so far, the body is practially rust free (and in very good shape) and is still in its original panda paint with colorcode 041 (Super White III, only available on late models). Second of all the car features an oldskool period correct urethane lip and louvre rear window. Continue reading

Carina Sightings: Another AA63 drift missle

Two weeks ago I posted up a relatively cheap Carina AA63 drift missile only to discover another on Auctions Yahoo two weeks later!

Its current price is 50000 yen (615 US dollars) but reserve hasn’t been met yet. At least this Carina is still in one piece so it could get a little bit more pricier than this.

The engine is quite impressive: a 4AGE 16 valve with independent throttle bodies!

To make it all work smooth a set of Toda cams, aftermarket piggyback ECU and a lightened flywheel have been installed.

Other modifications are a set of SSR Longchamp XR4s, camber plates and front tower bar and on the inside a set of Recaros to make you feel a bit more comfortable in those loooong corners:

This missile seems to be in a bit better shape than the other one, but this one has had less extensive modifications.

In case you want to bid on it, you still have five days left and can find the action here: Carina AA63 at Auctions Yahoo.
If you like something different: the seller also has a few shakotan and bosozoku style rides for sale!

Carina Sightings: AA63 drift missile

I found a Carina GT-R bargain on auctions yahoo: it has many modifications, RS Watanabe and Hayashi Street rims and only costs 70000 yen!

From this side it looks quite okay…

But from this angle:

It looks like sh*t!
The tail lights already have been swapped for late type tail lights and even if you are handy with a hammer and chisel you can’t make much of it anymore…

On the positive side: many modifications have been made to this car, including some nice goodies under the hood:

A tower brace, carburetors, 4-1 performance header, trunk battery, MSD ignition, high lift cams and a balanced crankshaft. Apart from that it has camberplates, a roll cage, FC Calipers, bucket seats and many more modifications!

I’d personally say the car is definitely worth it for spares if you can manage to pay the shipping costs. ;)

My Carina: Carina GT-R Cluster pin layout

This Carina GT-R AA63 Cluster has already been lying in my shed for two years now.
Carina GT-R AA63 cluster cleanup: opened up
Carina GT-R AA63 cluster cleanup: opened up

Why? Well, there are three modifications I need to make:
1. Speedo cable on the wrong side, so I need to modify the cable-bracket to be mounted on the other side
2. An additional hole for the odometer reset button on the dash
3. Rewire the connector to match the AA63 pin layout

1 and 2 are not really problematic, but can only be solved when I’m mounting the new cluster. 3 is a bit more difficult since these clusters are not documented outside Japan. So I started following all wiring paths and documented where they went and what their use should be.
This is the table of changes (I found so far) to make:

As you can see it is far from complete: there are still seven questionmarks. So, next time I’ll try to figure these out as well.

In case you are wondering where the numbers are located on the clusters:

I did find a CD with all Japanese workshop manuals for the A40 and A60 series at Auctions Yahoo, but a steep buy-me-now price of 48 euro (68 US dollar) refrained me from buying it. I’ve trieed to contact the seller by email and asked if they can sell it directly to me, but no answer so far… So if anyone has the AA63 cluster pin layout, please contact me! :)

Carina Sightings: 30000 yen Carina GT-R bargain!

I guess this is one of these bargains you always hope for: a blue Carina GT-R AA63 for only 30000 yen! That is only 370 US dollars! And (at time of posting) the auction only has 11 hours to go before it ends!My bad: it still has 12 days to go before it ends!

This blue GT-R is currently for sale at Auctions Yahoo with an opening bid of 30000 yen! Why? Because it is covering the recycling costs! It is of course questionable if the seller actually will sell it for that price, but he specifically states “Only the highest bid is fine because it is inclusive of charge for recycling.“.

The Carina is a 1983 model, only covered 150k kilometers and was painted Alfa Romeo 147 midnight blue a few years ago. The deep dish white SSR mesh rims really complement the whole car.

Apart from having a clean 4A-GE it also got (a non functioning) aircon and powersteering under the hood and powerwindows and central locking in its doors.

Not only does it have all those luxury options: it is also features a lightened AE101 flywheel, lowered with AE92 shocks and springs at the front and GAB shocks and cut springs at the rear. It also has a FRP bonnet and trunklid to save weight!

IMO a real bargain for that price!

If you are still not convinced, here is a gallery of the Carina!

My Carina: Carina sidemarkers from Auctions Yahoo

Two weeks ago a package arrived:
Package from Rinkya Japan!
Package from Rinkya Japan!

It was sent through Rinkya (they get the stuff from Auctions Yahoo for you!) and took about 2 months by sea mail. It didn’t matter it took that long since I was in no hurry, but I could have gotten it through airmail as well. :)

What was in it then?
Well packaged with foam and polystyrene

Well, a lot of foam and polystyrene! With car parts Rinkya is extra careful and packages it even better than you would do it yourself! Now that is professional! I can certainly learn from this with the AEU86 shop I guess…

But what’s in there except for all that crap then?
A set of JDM Carina sidemarkers and citylights
A set of JDM Carina sidemarkers and citylights

Two JDM Carina sidemarkers and two citylights! I don’t need the citylights but they were one single auction, so got them anyway…

Test fitting:

Looks like a perfect fit!

Can’t wait till I’ve repaired the brackets and fitted this set to the Carina! :)
(Only need to find the time to do so…)

Big thanks to Rinkya for arranging the auction just in time and shipping it so carefully!
