Remembering Japanese cars from the past

DOTS: Mysterious old racecar

This mysterious old racecar wasn’t particularly Down on the Street, it was more or less on a roof:

I passed it several times when I went to work on a different route but never actually took the time to have a good look at it. It really looks like a small old racecar from the early 50s.

But this time I had a better look at it and brought along my camera. As you can see from this angle there is a figure sitting in it:

Eventhough I do think some original parts (e.g. shocks and such) were used it is probably a sculpture! ;)

Around the world in 40 days

No, I’m not taking on any bets and certainly not going to do Michael Palins effort in half the time…
It is all about this envelope I received earlier this week: one of the orders for the Bosozoku Style Coloringbook than was returned to sender. Not that it is that odd, but what was odd was the state of the envelope:

It went all the way to New Zealand (about on the opposite site of the earth for me) and back in 40 days! I do use thick and heavy envelopes with a solid back to send it to the buyers who are not on the continent. And miraculously the contents survived well enough to be resent to the buyer (with a new address) so it was a good thing to take those precautions! :)

Commerical time: Lancer fights on in China

I always liked the looks of the seventh generation Lancer, especially when it became available in that awesome EVO package. I really have fond memories of seeing a EVO V up close during a smoke break in 2001 when one of the (shady) business partners of one of my former employers parked it right next to me. I can still remember that awesome sound, those awesome looks and that awesome smell of burnt oil! :)

Anyways, I’m drifting off a bit too much… The Chinese car manufacturer Soueast is building the seventh generation of the Lancer in license. In other words, you can still buy them!

There is also a sports edition with a restyled nose. Let’s hope the Chinese are sane enough to offer the EVO versions as well! :)
