JCS 2010 highlights (part two)

Let’s continue (and finish) the highlights of Japan Classic Sunday 2010!

First of all these two blue Corolla KE30s drew my attention:

I briefly spoke to the owner and his buddy. They surely love to keep these old Rollas alive! :)

Another Corolla, but this time PetzK’s AE86:

It finally returned to its home soil (it used to be a Dutch 3 door!) and the car looks even better than on the pictures I saw before. Too bad I didn’t have the opportunity to chat! :(

Talking about 3 door AE86s:

He won second place in the youngtimer class (two years ago he became first). Winning a price on the JCS is not a bad thing, but winning twice is a very good thing! Congrats again Ibrahim! :)

Iwan brought both his Datsun Super Six and this Datsun 280C wagon:

Not only can this 280C bring along 8 passengers (!) but it also has a small side window that can be operated through the keyhole in the back (seen in the last picture!). It was meant as a feature for Japanese people who returned shopping and wanted to load their groceries into the car without stepping off the pavement! Talk about (useless) innovation! :D

And last but not least, this Corolla Levin BG-Z AE111:

Believe it or not: this car is an original Luxembourg car! A collector from Luxembourg ordered this RHD car through a Toyota dealer directly from Japan, so this is one of the few original AE111 delivered outside Japan! Amazing!

That’s it for JCS 2010! Can’t wait for JCS 2011! (if that is ever going to happen!)

HachiRock 2010

HachiRock 2010 has been announced! This year it will be held on the 19th of September, so that is about one week later than last year. Of course it will be at the same spot: the Sagamiko resort
HachiRock Festa 2010
HachiRock Festa 2010

The poster is yet again extrodinary beautiful: a SD (Super Deformed) kouki Trueno with deep dish SSR Mk IIIs doing some drifts! Just as great as last years Panda red Levin

Because last year was sold out months before they raised the total amount of cars from 250 to 270, not that it will help much: I expect it to be sold out soon! ;)

If you are near Tokyo this September this is definitely a meeting you should go to! See here for more info: HachiRock 2010 website

Model cars by Jon2

I still remember my first model car kit: it was a modified König Ferarri Testarossa. It took me more than a month to complete it and it looked…uhm…interesting… After that model kit I tried my luck with another, but the result remained the same: it looked like crap!

So I decided model kits were not the thing for me. Then I forgot about it and made the same mistake by buying a Oh My Goddess! Belldandy model and tried to do it right this time. It is still looking great in half completed state. ;)

That’s why I have a lot of respect for the people who are capable of doing model kits and doing them the right way. For example I came across joh2 on Youtube who posted amazing videos of his model kits in all different states/steps of completion. My personal favorite is this red 4 door Toyota Corolla TE71:

I really like his personal touches, like the black vinyl roof (my dads TA60 Carina used to have one!), the sunroof, the hood scoop and the trunk spoiler!

Another great one is this second generation CRX:

And his last creation, a Corolla Levin AE86:

Freak accident with a Toyota Corolla Levin AE86

It is no surprise I’m following the tuner Impulse for a while now and I spotted some videos by them on Youtube a while ago and subscribed to them on Youtube as well.

Anyway, they just posted this really old footage of an AE86 race (no date given) in which a freak accident happens:

The hachiroku right in front of their car just drives its normal lines and another hachi just does some weird action. Either the driver was very inexperienced (breaking while turning?? :o ) or he freaked out on the hachi in front of him and did a quick evading maneuver (couldn’t tell from the video) and bumps into the hachi in front of the Impulse hachi. The wheel of the hachi in front of the Impulse hachi gets smashed first into the bodywork and then on the rear wheel of the other and gets launched a few meters and flipped over! The Impulse driver keeps his head cool and keeps his distance…

Couldn’t see how bad the damage was on those two hachis, but it states that the race continued after this incident. Hopefully the driver of the launched hachi came out okay…
