Down on the Street: last Hungarian Honda Civic EK

This actually isn’t the last of the Honda Civics I spotted in Hungary, but it will be the last one I’ll share. Maybe it has been some sort of foreboding spotting that many Civics? Anyway, the others were, I guess, less interesting… Now this Honda Civic EK is interesting:

As you might have spotted it features ATS Cup rims and double exhaust pipes which are obviously not very JDMish. Correct: it actually is very Veedubbish (or VWish) and most of the tuned cars in Hungrary are done in this style. I even spotted and photographed a flushed Civic EG that made me think Honda could actually have been originating from Germany, but not worth sharing as the car was a WIP.

So what if the rims actually belong to a Golf? To be honest: the whole BBS style rims on JDM cars originated from the BMW scene, so why not a set of ATSes?

So what do you think about these mix and match styles?

Commercial Time: Toyota’s Mobile Suit Gundam Auris

I don’t regret having bought a Honda Civic already, but after watching a JDM commercial for the Toyota’s Mobile Suit Gundam Auris it makes me wish Toyota would actually sell the version from the commercial and not the one we find at our dealers! Basically Toyota launched the Auris in Japan already in September 2012 and they created a Gundam inspired version called MS-186H-CA to promote it on the Chara Hobby fair in August 2012 and fast forward one year and they now allow you to own one yourselves!

They use Gundam in their car commercial with an anime clip with Gundam’s Char character hopping out of a Mobile Suit and into the Auris and driving it to the limit. Now that’s a selling point! ;)

The real life version of this Auris costs a mere 3.3M yen (25000 euros) on top of the ordinary Auris price and this is what it looks like:

Don’t get me wrong here, but IMO the ordinary Auris is a bit dull… A bit suburbian I guess… This Auris actually makes me wish Toyota would be equally fun to drive again in Europe! ;)
To make another analogy: Char’s Auris looks just as good as a GT86 and I honestly don’t know which one I would rather own!

The commercial itself is 40 seconds of Gundam meets Toyota goodness!

Hilarious: Super Duper Toyota Crowns!

While browsing the interwebs I do encounter a lot of different websites and some of them are more interesting than others. Some others are less interesting but do feature hidden gems in not that interesting things. Take for instance this Toyota Crown S120 brochure which features this model/type overview in one of the last pages:

What strikes me is that about every model of the Toyota Crown is super: Sedan Super Deluxe, Sedan Super Saloon, Sedan Super Saloon Extra, Station Wagon Super Saloon, Hardtop Super Edition, Hardtop Super Saloon and the cherry on top is the Hardtop Super Saloon Extra! How much more super can it get? ;)

Some time ago Daniel O’Grady from Wasabi Cars posted a video about a neglected private car-collection where he mentioned that every car in Japan features a super deluxe somewhere: Continue reading
