Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Charity: buy a Love Ebisu shirt and help Japan!

As I wrote earlier this week that Ebisu needs to be rebuilt on some parts (like the pits), but did you also know they are housing people who were made homeless last weeks events? That’s definitely a great initiative that needs support!

That’s why Tim Hutton from sliproadjunkies designed a Love Ebisu tshirt and hoodie and sells them for charity:

All money made (excluding the initial costs) on these products will all be given to charity!

Head over to Sliproadjunkies to order one and help Ebisu help Japan!
Yes, we ? Ebisu!

WTF: set a Skyline GC110 on fire and laugh about it!

Back in 1984 a lot of cars were (mis)used in Seibu Keisatsu. See a short backstage clip about how they park a four door Yonmeri Skyline GC110 into a pile of (nowadays extinct) burning J-tin and have a big laugh about it:

Fast forward that video 27 years and all of a sudden that ubiquitous GC110 became a rare cult hit!

Carina Sightings: Roman’s SA60 Carina

I’ve been (slowly) watching Roman fixing up his AA60 Carina coupe. Every few months he posted another update or image on AEU86.org showing what progress he made, either a F series live axle, an engine bay spray or acquisition of a 3SGE. Two weeks ago his Carina came back from the paintshop and all he has to do now is to put that puzzle back together. :D

This is how the project looked half way in 2008:

And this is how it looks now in light greige metallic:

As you can see, most of the interior is already back in. Bumpers, fuelcap, fenders, headlights… A long list of (small) parts to be fitted.
BTW: those tail lights are his “spare” tail lights. Two (almost) new tail lights will be fitted when it is done!

As you can see I’m very excited about his project finally coming together! Can’t wait to see the pictures of his car when its done!

Commerical time: Mazda Luce Cosmo HB

This Luce Cosmo (HB platform) is placed in a Beverly Hills surrounding with an American license plate. I’ve seen this advertising trick more often with these old commercials. Were the Japanese thinking that when a car had an American license plate and a sunny Californian setting it would be with loved by the Americans? Or has Amercian approval? Or had American style?

For sure this Luce Cosmo never made it to the US at all!
And I love the Kossumoo! at the end! :)

Japan donation fund

Casey Dhnaram (owner of Shirtstuckedin.com and journalist for Speedhunters) opened up a relief fund for Japan:
I’ve been thinking to myself over the past 24 hours, what can I possibly to do help? Fly over there and be a volunteer? Possibly! But for now I’ve setup this Earthquake Donation which 100% of the funds raised will be given directly to the Red Cross foundation of Japan and racetracks such as Ebisu Circuit which have been affected very badly as it’s located in the Fukushima region. Please donate whatever you think is necessary, every cent counts.
A very good initiative I’d definitely like to support!

BTW: I didn’t even know Ebisu was damaged by the earthquake, but you can read all about it on their blog.

So head over to Shirtstuckedin.com and donate through PayPal:

I donated earlier today and it is literally two clicks to donate! :)
