JCS2011: Super rare Carina hardtop coupe TA17!

This posting had a high Sonny Chiba feeling: this restored Carina hardtop coupe TA17 is exactly the same model as Sonny Chiba used in the famous commercial!

The owner and his buddies came all the way from Finland to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and inbetween they stopped by at the JCS2011!

Just look at how beautiful those tail lights are sunken deeply into the bodywork!

Also imagine what potential watertrap that could be!

The Carina TA17 hardtop coupe has been imported from Japan and it, as the owner described it, is his dreamcar and he simply had to. He does own another 10 Toyotas from which 3 are Carina TA14s.

Last but not least: this is how great fender mirrors are:

A very high coolness factor but a limited angle of view…

JCS 2010 highlights (part two)

Let’s continue (and finish) the highlights of Japan Classic Sunday 2010!

First of all these two blue Corolla KE30s drew my attention:

I briefly spoke to the owner and his buddy. They surely love to keep these old Rollas alive! :)

Another Corolla, but this time PetzK’s AE86:

It finally returned to its home soil (it used to be a Dutch 3 door!) and the car looks even better than on the pictures I saw before. Too bad I didn’t have the opportunity to chat! :(

Talking about 3 door AE86s:

He won second place in the youngtimer class (two years ago he became first). Winning a price on the JCS is not a bad thing, but winning twice is a very good thing! Congrats again Ibrahim! :)

Iwan brought both his Datsun Super Six and this Datsun 280C wagon:

Not only can this 280C bring along 8 passengers (!) but it also has a small side window that can be operated through the keyhole in the back (seen in the last picture!). It was meant as a feature for Japanese people who returned shopping and wanted to load their groceries into the car without stepping off the pavement! Talk about (useless) innovation! :D

And last but not least, this Corolla Levin BG-Z AE111:
Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G AE111

Believe it or not: this car is an original Luxembourg car! A collector from Luxembourg ordered this RHD car through a Toyota dealer directly from Japan, so this is one of the few original AE111 delivered outside Japan! Amazing!

That’s it for JCS 2010! Can’t wait for JCS 2011! (if that is ever going to happen!)

JCS 2010 highlights (part one)

I just uploaded all worthy pictures I took at Japan Classic Sunday 2010. I haven’t commented them yet but I surely will do that in the upcoming week. I’ll also start posting pictures from the meet now and then. Let’s kick off with some highlights!

Trip to the JCS 2010
Trip to the JCS 2010

The trip to JCS was already a highlight! Five old/youngtimers cruising on the highway and of course we could all keep up with modern traffic. Only the TE71 (currently an AE71 with 20v blacktop) had some difficulties now and then: who says a blown headgasket can keep you from going to a meeting? So he just filled up that radiator with some water now and then… ;)

Double Beat!
Double Beat!

These double Honda Beats sure look great! If you read my blog regularly you will recognize the red Honda Beat as the one I posted in the DOTS a few weeks ago! I spoke to the owner and he has an extensively large collection of cars and motorcycles and does indeed owns the FJ Cruiser. More on that later!

What’s so special about this German AE86 except for its AE86 vanity plate?

German Corolla AE86 with 401k on the odo!
German Corolla AE86 with 401k on the odo!

401k kilometer on the odo meter? Indeed: I spoke to the (young) owner who bought it only three weeks ago from the first owner! The first owner had the car for 27 years and drove 400k kilometers with it and then sold it off to this young lad. From the sound of the engine that 4AGE was still purring like a kitten! :)

More highlights tomorrow and on Saturday! In the meanwhile you can already have a look at the pictures here:

JCS 2010 was fun!

Had great fun yesterday at the Japan Classic Sunday 2010! Saw many friends, familiar faces and familiar cars! Even spotted two DOTS and spoke to one of them! :)

It was very hot today and after shooting pictures+talking I figured I needed a rest. Did miss quite a few cars that way, well shit can happen. Still sorting out all the pictures I shot and I will definitely upload pictures somewhere this week… For now you will have to do with my autojumble find:
JCS 2010 autojumble: Carina TA60 indicator lights
JCS 2010 autojumble: Carina TA60 indicator lights

Yep, two original TA60 indicator lights! Too bad one of them has a small crack in them, but it isn’t that bad… Apart from that I’ve probably sourced a trunklid and some side panels! You can never have enough parts I guess! :P

Japan Classic Sunday pictures

I finally uploaded all photos I shot at the Japan Classic Sunday 2008 last sunday!

Japan Classic Sunday 2008 gallery

Too bad I started chatting too much and didn’t shoot much pictures. I planned to do so, but all of a sudden most cars disappeared because they attended the tour around the area. So after a while me and they other AEU86 guys decided to join the tour as well.

After the tour I had to go home and I did not have any time left to shoot some more photos. :(

I will highlight the event later, and hopefully with some borrowed pics. ;)

Anyway, you can find most photos I shot here:
