Carina Sightings: Portuguese Carina TA60 sedan

I was browsing the Portuguese car sale portal Standvirtual and searched for interesting cars and found this very good looking Toyota Carina TA60 sedan:

Basically the same as mine, but what caught my eye was the asking price for this car: only 550 euros!

Minor dent above the exhaust, but it’s bootlid appears to be rust free…

…and from the side it also appears to be rust free, so it can’t be rust!

Interior looks as good as mine…

…and also has the three point seatbelts on the rear seats!

And the doors are also as rust free as mine… The car has 80000 kilometers on the odometer, so that’s roughly the same as mine… And I don’t think the price includes the dog…

So, you may ask why is this car this cheap then? It is simple: the car is an unwanted car! It is not a Celica or the sporty Corollas (TE71 or AE86) and AFAIK Portugal has no legislation for 25 year old cars like The Netherlands has. Basically it is considered an old clunker… The car has no papers! ;)
Thanks to Santos for the correction!

Now, who can chip in for a one way ticket to Lissabon?? ;)

Carina sightings: Yokosuka’s deep blue Carina AA63

I found this lovely deep blue Carina AA63 on Minkara:

It may look quite ordinary, but if you look closer to Yokosuka‘s car you can see it has got widened fenders up front, wider Hayashi Streets up front, lowered a bit (FC3S and GX71 springs) and a rollcage inside.

I’m not too sure it was originally an AA63 since the grille wears a Carina SG badge… But it surely does have a 20v 4AGE blacktop up front!

With the helmet on the roof, the track number on the rear door window, roll cage and widened front fenders (and wheels) I suspect he uses the car for the occasional drift day.

And some bling as well: he put a set of leds in the tail lights!

Too bad he just started his Minkara account, so we’ll just have to wait and hope more will come in due time…

Carina Sightings: Carina GT-R coupe AA63

Some time ago I posted a really nice Carina GT Coupe TA45 which I found at Japan Vintage. I also found a Carina GT-R Coupe AA63 on their website but never actually posted it…

As you can see it is a very beautiful Carina coupe sitting on a set of Toms racing wheels and PIAA foglights!

As you can see, the pictures were taken at the same setting as the Carina GT TA45 coupe. Somehow that background makes those cars look even better!

Exhaust is not that special, but you can see from its bumper and taillights that it is the late type model. You could also have deducted that from the fact that it is an AA63! ;)

I also uploaded the video that was on the advertisement:

Nice TRD sticker on the side, but most probably only the springs and shocks are TRD.

When viewed closer these Toms rims are looking good. Also the lip is a very nice aftermarket one!

Once upon a time… this car was a red car… :D

And the interior looks pretty clean. However there are some dashboard parts missing: Right speaker cover is missing, pedals and steering wheel have been swapped, an ugly foglight switch on the center console and an ashtray has been mounted on the drivers door… Not as immaculate as the interior of the TA45 coupe…

All in all a very nice looking car. Obviously this car has been tuned for street usage which left its marks on the car itself. The price is 4300 dollars which is way too much for a 24 year old 168000km car with powersteering and aircon.

The car can be found here:

Carina Sightings: the Carina Sheriff is for sale!

Do not worry about getting caught by the Carina Sheriff: apparently the Sheriff resigned and put it for sale!

So this can be yours for a mere 350 euros:

It has comfortable bucket seats too:

The handle near the dashboard is to lock the adjustable steering wheel (only up and down).

For that price the car is a bargain, even as spares car. Too bad my shed is already full of spares… Anyone else interested in the Sheriff?

Carina sightings: Carina TA63 with 3RZ-FE swap

Good news! The infamous Carina with 1UZ swap is now getting a 3RZ-FE swap:
Infamous Carina 1UZ is getting a 3RZ-FE swap

Toyotaloyal transplanted a 1UZ-FE in his Carina TA63 (3T-GTE was already gone when he bought it) and ran it for over a year. After, as he calls it, bragging about the reliability of the engine the engine decided to destroy its big end bearing. The 1UZ-FE either had to be repaired or… swapped for another engine:

The 3RZ-FE engine can be found in the Toyota Tacoma, 4Runner and T100. The reason for choosing the 3RZ-FE was because of its reputation with the US dragracers: the engine is very reliable, got an incredibly big displacement for an inline four and is easy to unleash a lot of power from this engine. As you can see the engine is a bit tall for the Carina, so I expect him to run the car with either a big bulge in its hood or even without the hood at all.

You can see his expectations of the power output echoing in this enormous gearbox crossmember!

Custom oil pan to have better oil flow

The oil pan will be a custom job to have a better oil flow than stock. This to prevent the engine from doing the same as the 1UZ-FE. ?´???

His plans for the engine is as following:
improvements to the 150hp commercial engine planned include a decently sized turbo- head work- custom inlet with 4age quad throttle bodies- remove the balance shafts- aftermarket pistons and connecting rods- MS3 engine management, just to name a few.

I like the look of this lip: it looks better than my FOHA lip. Toyotaloyal says he is going to source an AE92 front bumper instead. I do agree with him: the AE92 front bumper looks much better than this.

I’m curious what the 3RZ-FE will bring in the future, so keep you updated on new developments on this car! ( ? ??)
