Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Hilarious: Dekochari (Dekotora bicycle)

Now this was a huge laugh for me: the Dekochari!

Dekotora is an abbreviation for Decoration Truck (Torakku). Chari means bicycle, so mixing it up with the Dekotora abbreviation it becomes Dekochari! Dressing up your bike into a Dekotora is just hilarious!

The soundtrack is called Ichiban-boshi Blues (by Bunta Sugawara and Kinya Aikawa) and the footage comes from a video called Dekochari Yarou.

If you thought that wasn’t funny enough, how about the Dekochari at 0:26 being driven by Daijiro Inada?

And how about another one just for the road? :P

Carina Sightings: Davy’s Carina TA63 at Hampton Down

I spotted the pictures of Davy’s Carina at first at Phils car blog, then headed over to Garage Slipway to read the whole story behind its run on Hampton Down.

Here the Carina is still running fast, but after only a couple of laps he heard a loud thudding noise and pulled up in the pits. Apparently nothing looked weird and he headed back on the track.

Had a look and couldn’t determine what it was. So what the heck I went out again. Then halfway around the track BANG, then no power. To be specific, no fuel as the line snapped and wrapped around the driveshaft which bought my car to a halt at the first hairpin.

The fuel line was probably grabbed by the driveshaft after it had some sort of in imbalance. Seen such a thing happen with Mux’s Levin AE86 and it turned out that one of the bolts on the rubber pivot was broken off. You can imagine what happens next when you are driving hard on a circuit. :o

I must say the JDM zenki Trueno AE92 bumper suits Davy’s Carina very well!

And this is how the Carina remained the rest of the session:

Parked up in the pits. A sad sight. :(

Most painful Itasha ever: Nissan Skyline KPGC10

Yes, it is indeed a painful (pun intended) sight to see a Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC10 this way:
Most painful Itasha ever: Nissan Skyline KPGC10
Most painful Itasha ever: Nissan Skyline KPGC10

I don’t think it will get the title of the most expensive itasha ever since I’ve seen several Ferrari and Lamborghini covered completely with anime vinyls.

On the other hand Haruhi blends perfectly in with the blue periodically correct racing stripes:

So even though it may be painful it is also done with great taste! ;)

My Carina: Carina sidemarkers from Auctions Yahoo

Two weeks ago a package arrived:
Package from Rinkya Japan!
Package from Rinkya Japan!

It was sent through Rinkya (they get the stuff from Auctions Yahoo for you!) and took about 2 months by sea mail. It didn’t matter it took that long since I was in no hurry, but I could have gotten it through airmail as well. :)

What was in it then?
Well packaged with foam and polystyrene
Well packaged with foam and polystyrene

Well, a lot of foam and polystyrene! With car parts Rinkya is extra careful and packages it even better than you would do it yourself! Now that is professional! I can certainly learn from this with the AEU86 shop I guess…

But what’s in there except for all that crap then?
A set of JDM Carina sidemarkers and citylights
A set of JDM Carina sidemarkers and citylights

Two JDM Carina sidemarkers and two citylights! I don’t need the citylights but they were one single auction, so got them anyway…

Test fitting:

Looks like a perfect fit!

Can’t wait till I’ve repaired the brackets and fitted this set to the Carina! :)
(Only need to find the time to do so…)

Big thanks to Rinkya for arranging the auction just in time and shipping it so carefully!
