Remembering Japanese cars from the past

New goodies: kouki Carina AA60 tail lights!

After missing out a couple of auctions on Carina AA60 tail lights, I decided I really had to get them the next time and contacted Ewan from Hayatonka. He understood the pain and difficulties, and did his best for me. After nearing the scary deadline the price rose quickly, but we managed to win the auction after all!

After being on a boat for four weeks the tail lights finally have arrived at my doorstep:
JDM Carina AA60 tail lights
A pair of zenki Carina AA60 tail lights, mid console and some other small stuff included in the auction. The lights basically look like they are brand new, so that was a very luck win!

The difference between the Carina AA60 and AA63 tail lights is that the AA63 ones are smoked. This means the AA63 ones look a bit blackish, while the AA60 are just normal ones. I can live without that I guess. ;)

Here you can compare how different they look from the zenki ones:

Can’t wait to put them on the Carina I guess. :)

Edit: I understand it might be a bit difficult to use the search, but generally these items are obtained via Yahoo Auctions. If you wish to obtain items like this, you should visit http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp and search for AA63 or AA60. This should give you a nice overview of all auctions of parts for these cars. You could also narrow it down to “テールランプ AA63” or just go directly to the lights category with the search for Carina

If you wish to get them and you don’t live in Japan, you can use a so called proxy or man-in-the-middle to obtain these. I made a series of videos about how to get this from using such a service:

I hope this makes everything clear. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask…

They look to be in really good condition, maybe someone’s treated them to a bit of a polish.

I got them from Japan as Toyota my Toyota dealer in the Netherlands is not willing to order JDM parts for me. Back in Amsterdam I had a bit more luck with the dealership.

Anyway, I don’t think you will find them in America as they were never delivered with these lights outside Japan. I saw yours on Facebook and it appears as if it has been converted from RHD to LHD: the windshield wiper positions do give away that they are supposed to go from left to right.

aa60 tail light how much ?

    • banpei

I paid about 10000 yen for them in the auction price and back then that was about 120 dollars. Including shipping and all other costs I ended up paying something near 200 dollars.

  8. indunil anushka

can i buy this im from sri lanka.

    • banpei

      Hi Indunil,

I think a man in the middle would be able to help you out. Nowadays I use Buyee. They are a bit more expensive than a single person exporter, however you are quite certain to win the action and they are quite transparent on the cost as well.
