Panda AE86 paint scheme [JDM Trivia #8]

JDM Trivia number eight!

I expected people to jump on the Fujiwara Tofu livery of the Corolla E80 sedan and I was right about that. Actually I wasn’t aiming for the Initial D inspired sticker but rather for the panda AE86 paint scheme applied to it. Why? Well because the two tone panda paint scheme of the AE86 is actually quite subtle and it is easy to make mistakes in it.

Panda AE86 paint scheme

To get started, and sorry if you already know this, but there are two types of the hachi roku: the Toyota Corolla Levin and the Toyota Sprinter Trueno. The former has fixed square head lights while the latter has 70s and 80s style popup head lights. Both of them featured in two body styles: 3 door hatch back and 2 door sedan. People also refer both as a coupe as they have been marketed as a coupe in various regions. However according to the Toyota firewall ID plates the real coupe is the 3 door hatchback and the 2 door sedan is called a hardtop. But enough about introducing even more confusion… Continue reading

Hilarious: Initial D Cosplay (part 2)

Seven years ago I posted a funny picture of Initial D cosplayers, so when I bumped into these two cosplay pictures I remembered the first vividly:
Hilarious: Initial D Cosplay
I must say these costumes are really sturdy made: three of them are based on shopping strollers. Itsuki’s Levin looks horrible, Takumi’s Sprinter Trueno even worse and the Subaru Impreza 22b looks acceptable. Ryosuke’s Mazda Savanna RX-7 looks the best and I bet the most sweat and tears were put into that costume!
BTW: the best looking character is Bunta Fujiwara in the Subaru! That guy really lives up to the original role!

Now there is another Takumi in the second picture: Continue reading

Let’s make this happen: Initial D legos

Yesterday I received an email (sent to AEU86) from Denil Oh if we could run his Initial D legos box proposal on our forums. Of course we could, and even better: we’ll promote the heck out of it as it needs 10000 supporters to get it to reality and that sounds like it would be doable!
Initial D Legos idea
The Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 complete with Takumi Fujiwara and the Fujiwara Tofu Shop the box would be an excellent starter for both kids and adults: adults (like me) remembering the series and buying the box for their kids to enjoy! 😉

This legos box proposal is so brilliant, the car is a really simple yet stunning design: Continue reading

Sanctuary: the Initial D Fujiwara Tofu shop (Haruna)

Yes, a new idea/section/regular just emerged: sanctuaries!
Why? Well basically last night I suffered from insomnia and for whatever reason my mind wandered to the original Initial D Tofu shop which is located in Shibukawan next to Mount Haruna (the town called Akina in Initial D) and that the original tofu shop has been demolished about three years ago. This is the photo Alexi took to prove it has been demolished:
Sanctuary: Intitial D Fujiwara Tofu Shop in Haruna
So I was wondering how many fanboys actually posed (or their cars) in front of the tofu shop when visiting Shibukawan or Mount Haruna, so here is a whole gallery of cars, tofu shops and people posing in front of it!

Also in case you are wondering where to find the place, this is the location on Google Streetview: Continue reading

Wrecked: watch out for wannabe Takumis!

With the fresh new start of Stage 5 it kicks off with a fake Takumi and Keisuke (still have to watch the first episode fully…) it might be good to warn for all the real wannabe Takumis in the world that will start getting inspired again and try to do what you should not do at home kids:
Wrecked Initial D Tofu Special AE86 replica
Just like this Itsuki did half a year ago in the Utsunomiya prefecture…

Guess what they found inside this Tofu Special: Continue reading

Brilliant: Maeda Tomato Shop panda red Levin AE86

About ten years ago it was very hard to find a panda white Sprinter Trueno AE86 at all and nowadays it is more or less a challenge to find one that was originally delivered in panda white!

The owner of this panda red Levin AE86 must have thought his car was just the opposite of the panda white Trueno:
Panda red AE86 Maeda Tomato Shop
The writing says Maeda Tomato Shop (private) and what is the opposite of tofu-white panda? Right: tomato red panda!
