Auctions Yahoo: Black Limited AE86 gauge cluster

May 16, 2013 in AE86 Trivia, AE86 Trivia, auctions yahoo

Disclaimer: I’m not selling this! I posted this because it MAY interest someone as it is a super rare object. Don’t ask me any questions regarding the object as I do not own it!

If anyone has 40000 yen spare (roughly about 300 euro) you can buy an original Black Limited gauge cluster for your AE86:

Four hundred Black Limited cars were made and one of the distinguishing items on the car was an orange gauge cluster. So if you are building your own Black Limited copy you can make it a bit more genuine by buying this cluster. A whole lot better than making your own using an orange marker on your original cluster… ;)

On a sidenote: I missed this one in the AE86 Trivia about the various gauge clusters, so I’ll add this one later on.

You can find the auction here:

.
If you need any help buying and importing this cluster to your country, you can use companies like Hayatonka to get them for you. Be aware that the total price can be a bit more than the 300 euros price of the auction. :P

AE86 Trivia: AE86 and AE85 Gauge clusters

December 29, 2012 in AE86 Trivia

Earlier I featured the AE86 GT-Apex Digi Dash and obviously it raises many AE86 enthusiasts hearts. This time I’d like to feature the normal AE86 cluster versus the AE85 cluster.

If you ever owned an AE86 (or watched too much Initial D) this cluster should be quite familar:
AE86 Trivia: Toyota Levin AE86 gauge cluster
It is the standard JDM kouki AE86 cluster for RHD cars. Difference between the kouki and zenki cluster are the the white vertical lines and white needles that replaced the old orange needles.
Difference between JDM and UKDM gauge cluster is the speedo that reaches 150mph (240km/h). Unfortunately I haven’t found a picture of that cluster yet…

Difference between JDM and continental EUDM gauge cluster is the mirrored layout and speedo that reaches 240 km/h. Read the rest of this entry →

November 9, 2012 in wrecked

With the fresh new start of Stage 5┬áit kicks off with a fake Takumi and Keisuke (still have to watch the first episode fully…) it might be good to warn for all the real wannabe Takumis in the world that will start getting inspired again and try to do what you should not do at home kids:

HaCHiRoCK 2012: the arrival!

October 5, 2012 in event

This is the last posting for HaCHiRoCK Festa 2012 and no: we’re not doing everything backwards. ;)
Actually I already posted up some pictures from this source yesterday, but the great thing is that he photographed all hachis arriving at the HaCHiRoCK!

Yes, that means that you can find about 200 hachis in 28 gallery pages in the Minkara gallery starting here:

HaCHiRoCK 2012: the WTF!?

October 4, 2012 in event

Shortly after meetings people post up tons of pictures (and videos) and you always see photos where you think: WTF!? Same happened to me when browsing the HaCHiRoCk 2012 with the ones I’m posting up!

First of all I was a bit confused by this black (fake carbon) sticker on the headlights:
HaCHiRoCK Festa 2012
Here in Europe we are familiar with these stickers as we do occasionally cross the channel to the UK and our cars have to carry these stickers to prevent us from blinding the Brits. Obviously the same applies to the Brits when they set foot on continental soil. ;)

So why would a hachi in Japan be carrying these stickers? Are they from Okinawa? Can’t be as the Levin AE86 has been produced after 1978…

The answer actually came to me spotting the HaCHiRoCK coverage on Speedhunters about the rally cars. One of them features HID headlights and of course the original Levin headlights were never intended to do this: they scatter the light into a certain areas and they probably blind others, hence the stickers on these headlights.

Another WTF was the wideness of this hachi: Read the rest of this entry →
