Remembering Japanese cars from the past

My stonks are soaring baby! – Family Album Treasures

At the height of the Japanese bubble economy, everything was booming: stocks, assets and land value. You name it, it was almost doubling year-over-year (well, that’s a bit exaggerated), so once you had become Mr. Big, you had to show it. Buying a Soarer Z20 would definitely show you were big in Japan!

Toyota Soarer Z20 soaring in value!

I can’t really tell whether this photo above is actually shot during the bubble era or it’s an homage to this era. The suit is the late 1980s/early 1990s, the mobile phone as well and so is the Toyota Soarer Z20. However, these rims actually feel more like the late 1990s and the camber as well. The photo is clearly shot with film, so if it were a homage, kudos to the photographer!

JDM Trivia #7: Kaido Racer part swaps

JDM Trivia #7

The feedback I got from the picture I posted was great! Some people suffer from Pareidolia just like me. Pareidolia is when you see faces in everything and some of you saw angry and happy faces in the photo. But what I actually was aiming for were the swapped tail lights on the kaido racer in this photo. Some of the commenters already uncovered me as the person behind the Bosozoku Style blog and yes that’s me.
JDM Trivia #7: Kaido Racer part swaps
In the kaido racers scene swapping parts between various cars is a highly valued modification, especially if it something original.

Kaido Racer part swaps

I haven’t done any statistics on this but I can say the most swapped parts are the tail lights of a Nissan Cherry X-1R and most of them end up on either a Skyline C110 or C210.

Second most swapped parts are the banana tail lights of the first generation JDM Toyota Celica liftback and it is unbelievable how well they look on Glorias, Fairladies, Skylines and Laurels. It is almost like the Nissan owners are jealous of this magnificent Toyota design.

Familiy Album Treasures: take off with your daughter

If you thought family album treasures were a typical thing from the 60s/70s/80s you are wrong: it is quite common for proud owners and/or family members to pose in front of their cars. Just like this daughter does for his proud daddy:
Take off with your daughter in the Soarer

That’s something I hope my son would be proud of if I owned a first generation Soarer with rollcage, bucket seats and deep dish wheels!

Or even pose and show the victory sign sitting shotgun! Definitely something to keep in the family album!

Carina tuning: 1JZ-GTE twin turbo

Found this Carina with a 1JZ-GTE engine (JDM Supra MkIII/Soarer MkII) in it:

From what I can see on the grille this is a ST model, so it either featured a 1S or 3A originally.

Too bad there is not more footage of this engine swap. Would have been very interesting in what they actually had to change for this!
